setting the TWEAK on a 10L

hay was racing oval Sunday
an a guy offered me the use of his Lefthander set up board 4 scales
with percent for side to side an front to back an all the bells an whistles never used one before
didn't know WHAT I was doing
always just lifted the front of the car picked up 4 laps
any 1 care to try an TEACH AN OLD DOG A NEW TRICK
so maybe I will know what I am doing

I've only used the MIP tweak station which is just a balance bar. Oval racing does my head in as trying to set a car up to only go left is harder then a circuit car in my opinion.

Normally you would try to eliminate all tweak out of a pan car (road) chassis but with oval car I assume you could likely use tweak to help the car turn left better. Sorry I couldn't be more help and hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.

Just trying to recall from my flat track oval days... which is definitely different than a banked carpet oval...

We didn't have fancy tweak boards, we just made a mark on the bottom plate on the back end dead center between the tires. Then you could use a small pointy object to lift at that center point to see which rear tire lifted first and by how much. You want your weight on the right rear and the tweak then puts more weight to left front. So the left rear should lift first.

Another way was to literally set the car down and lift the rear tires yourself to "feel" the pressure to see where the tweak was. Then once you get some tweak in, you could make other adjustments for the "rate" at which the roll would happen in the corner. Some cars had side-shocks, some used dampener tubes, and some used sway bars to slow the roll of the car going into the corner.

The scales obviously give you a much more precise/repeatable way to setup the car. Don't try to hard copy someone else on an oval car unless you're talking identical cars/setups because even just a 1/4" shift on where the battery is... or different spring... put some tweak in and then see how things handle and talk to folks to see what they may suggest.

I don't know if anyone is doing it now... but back in the day for the flat oval some of us switched to reverse rotation motors (aka LeftSideDrive / LSD) cars which gave a better handling when you accelerated out of the corners on the flat oval.
