My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
I have an original Hotshot, it was sooo much fun and really handled the hard stuff well. It been sitting for 30 years has a broken rear suspension part and needs to be sorted.

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WC
just looking for feedback. I've been out of it for years, is there a vintage class for racing these or do guys just restore them for fun?

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
The rerelease parts should be a direct fit and get you back into running condition. Is it the arm that is broken?

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
Yes. Just completed a build of the re-release Hotshot (with a few custom parts) and comparing the manuals with the original most parts are pretty much identical and therefore interchangeable.
Have a look at the old and new manuals on line just to compare.

That Hotshot looks awesome... How do these drive compared to the 2WD Tamiya classics?
Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
I found my original Hotshot this past weekend. Shipped it to my house. I am excited to get it and my FAV running as well.
With the re-releases it will be easy to get them moving again. I am looking forward to it.

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
Got my hotshot apart yesterday. All in all, it looks pretty good for a 30 year old car that was really abused by a young and inexperienced kid!
Front arms and hubs will be replaced. Top chassis as well.
Ordered complete screw sets too.
Question--the old 4wd shaft is the "hexagonal" type. Newer version is the "dog bone" type. Worth upgrading? Everything looks okay for the time being, but just seeing what folks thought.

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
Nah, not unless hex ends are so wornout they're slipping. If they work just clean & regrease (I use molybdenum grease), no reason why they won't keep working. Even the Boomerang's bent wire driveshaft works well enough for bashing around.
Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
To follow up from my post in the tech section:
Which battery works best in the vintage Hotshot? Right now I am leaning toward NiNM just for running around.
Thanks!

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
Nothing wrong with NiMH, they still work.
Keep in mind there's significant weight difference ~100g between lipo & NiMH, changing between them is not just putting different pack in. Suspension settings & balance will be a felted... on monoshock Hotshot, it might stay on tippytoe if there's not enough weight.

Re: My Vintage Hotshot 4WD
I assume that there NiMH batteries that will fit in the battery compartment of the Hotshot. Which ones would be a good known fit?
