I'm just thinking a bigger cam as everything else is done. My goal was an honest 350hp at the crank which it's probably not far off.
With all the problems I've had with this one I'm tempted to buy a 435+hp dyno proven turn key (daily driver) engine.

The 435hp engine isn't much more then what I originally spend on this one. Dyno run it and set up with all bugs worked out on dyno so drop in, hook up power and turn key.
The whole carb issue sort of killed the fun of build it yourself.
I could still use the engine in another car so not all is lost.

Time heals wounds, don't let the carby issue get you down.
It is not your fault, the first thing your mechanic should have done was try another carby.
If he did not have one, borrow one from another business.
Full stop, no excuses!
RJ, I had my first hot Chev in about 1982, I have messed with them for years.
If you have something you are not sure of, please ask.
I wish I was there when your mechanic was messing with that carby.
I would have put him right!
My Dad always says I don't know how you can fix so much.
I say well some things I can't work out.
His reply is well with what I have seen your win to lose ratio,
is well on the win side.
Did you read about the Fuel injected 13B I was trying to help my neighbor with?
At the end of the day I was right,
I could have saved him $1000's
Because it was his car, he was working on emotions.
I work on logic!

Putting another carb on is easy, spending another $1000 for a different carb "quick fix" isn't as easy.
That's why dyno'd turn key is appealing to me. I know it's not my fault but the issue was "you bought the carb, we can't really help you with any warranty, if we bought the carb we could". The speed shop wouldn't do anything but send carb back to Holley, or I'd have to send it into Holley myself.
Can't dyno tune car without carb..... Not a fun process, and it's the first "major" issue I've ever had with any product.

This is a lively discussion not an argument.
If it was me I would never return to that shop again!
As I said, any shop worth a pinch of salt would have begged/borrowed/stolen another carby to try.
That is basic mechanics.
You need a shop that does not make excuses!
And then charges you for their stupidity!

I always put myself out there, waiting for others that know more to teach me.
Here is a mower I picked up off the side of the road,
It is around 35 years old.
You will notice the lawn is half cut, I used the mower to cut the back lawn today.
Took less than half an hour to get running.
Compression. check.
Spark. NO.
Change plug,
Spark check.
Add fuel.
Pull cord,
Don't know how long it has not been running,
Pulled cord about 6 - 10 times,
If it didn't start work on carby.
O.K started, now running leave running for 3 minutes.
O.k don't need to touch carby.
Now starts first pull.

Hi Guys,
I let the mower cool down for half an hour.
Now won't start.
Probably a dry diaphragm in the carby, so it won't pump the fuel up.
Next step,
I have a known good carby,
Will use this one for next test.

They did eventually try a new carb which is where it all started. They said it was likely a metering block that wasn't drilled properly.
Holley probably replaced the metering blocks for free as they were a manufacturing fault but they wont pay for the three hours of dyno time figuring it out. Likewise the dyno shop wont work 3 hours for free, so in the end I'm forced to pay the bill. In the end I think the dyno shop didn't charge me the "real" amount.

And Holley carbys out of the box are set to be 10% rich,
so you don't blow up your motor.

Well, the reason it went to the dyno shop in the first place is the engine builder couldn't get it to run properly because of "surprise surprise" the carb.
I would always get a street tune over a max power tune anyday as race tunes are flat out or nothing, not what the engine would see everyday.
With all the mods regardless of use a dyno tune on a fairly fresh motor is pretty important to get the fuel curve right or at least close.

I'll be waiting!
I stupidly sold my Holden HG premier sedan,
350 Chev, roller cam, roller rockers, 650 DP on a Victor junior single plane manifold,
Low 11 seconds on street tires on a marked out 400 meter strip with very poor traction.
It would smoke the tires, all the way in 1st and second gear,
small loss of traction going into top.
Never got it to a drag strip.

I'll be waiting!
