Looking for aftermarket medium shocks any suggestions?

Post by rccars4sal »

So, Im in a building mood, but the only shocks I like are Kyosho mediums. Unfortunately, they are unobtanium.

How are shocks measured? From hole to hole? From tip top to bottom of the ball cup?

Gold mediums seem about 80mm from hole to hole.

From hole to hole.

For cheap Kyosho medium shocks, look for Mini Inferno alloy rear shocks. They are the same thing as their 1/10 short Teflon shocks. If you want the best of the best, pay up for some Lazer ZX6 big bores...

As EvoRevo said, from hole-center to hole-center. Some tips on sourcing shocks, if you can find shocks that are up to 86mm or so: you can shorten them quite easily to meet your needs by swapping the ball-ends by using short ball-cups and also reduce the shock travel, and ultimately the total length, by putting a 2mm thick or so nylon or plastic washer or bushing underneath the shock piston. Shock shafts are usually 3mm diameter so any nylon/plastic washer with a 3mm hole and 5 or 6mm outside diameter will fit the bill. Those are some of the tricks I used to shorten the shocks on my CYANide Turbo Optima on-road conversion.

Yeah, I like ultimate and equalizer shocks. Still kind of expensive though.

It's too bad you can't get these from 3Racing anymore (discontinued now)...they were excellent shocks and only cost about $23 for a set of 4. I would've bought a few more sets if I'd known they'd be discontinued.
