Easy Hinge Pin Restoration Method

I'm sure many of you know this method of cleaning hinge pins, but it is new to me, and hopefully it might help a few people during their restorations and rebuilds. I've just finished restoring an old XX-CR Graphite, and during the cleaning process I thought that the hinge pins were beyond repair and would need replaced. I came across a cleaning method that I thought was genius! It worked so well, I wanted to share it here.


First the materials needed:
1. Dremel Tool
2. Polishing Compound
3. Rag



Insert hinge pin into the chuck of the Dremel tool and lightly tighen it. Put some polishing compound on the rag, turn the Dremel on to a fairly low setting and lightly pinch the hinge pin...Do not pinch with too much pressure, as you will feel the heat build up. Also be careful that the rag doesn't catch on the spinning parts.



Lastly, sit back and enjoy that mirror finish.....and the fact you just saved some money

Yep, this is great method for just about all metal parts.
I made a video that I haven't posted yet on doing this. Just haven't had time to edit the darn thing. I used a little different compound that is not as thick, and probably is little less abrasive. But it all depends on how bad the parts are on how abrasive you want to be with your compound.

I do this with a product called Flitz. Not very abrasive and works well.

Trick Tip: 2 buggies per hanger. No flat spots on the tires.
