What is the worst injury from spotting?
This past weekend I suffered a mild ankle sprain after spotting.
So what is the worst injury you've gotten while spotting(corner marshaling)?

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
I let a top guys car sit too long and he cussed and called me some ugly stuff and I am mentally hurt to this day. Said guy also through his radio off the drivers stand that night at the track in frustration. What a putz!......

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
1/8th scale nitro buggy into the shin at full tilt (end of long straight), I went down and rolled into the track. Deep gash and blood all over. Not even a sorry from the driver. Race Director was 'nice' enough to excuse me from marshalling again in the last race.
Worst mistake (in the same line kinda), I marshalled the leaders car (A main, 4wd mod, many high profile Pro drivers) tried to be smooth/quick and my finger got stuck in the rear wheel and instead of getting the car off the pipe and keeping him in first, I ended up flipping his car on the lid and he dropped to 5th....less than a minute left in the race
. I went to apologize and he wouldnt even look at me or acknowledge I was there....I tried.

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
Didn't happen to me, per say, but I've had a couple vehicles stepped on by the marshals during a race. Both happened in the same day. One hit square in the middle and smashed the body down. Took some umph to pop it back out. No permanent damage, but I did get knocked down a few places. It was frustrating, but accidents happen. I understand the frustrations involved with RC racing as well as anyone. But my opinion of someone really changes when they loose their temper and yell at someone over a mistake.

Agreed, on the angry people. Maybe that's why I never won a lot as I just never took it so seriously I would yell at someone or brush someone off after they got injured. People must have a blessed life with no worries if RC racing gets them all worked up. Sorry, off soapbox.

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
When I crash I know the spotter had nothing to do with it. People need to take a deep breath and relax.
During my main on Sunday my battery connector gave out(2nd time) when I was in 2nd and gaining on the leader. Sure I was disappointed, but that is racing.. I just waited on the stand(quietly) for the race to finish watching the guy I thought I could pass for the lead walk away with it.

Common injury from marshalling were burns from hot motors & pipes. Gloves are a must - Daddy's rule originally, habit has continued since.
some of my onroaders too
meh my offroad racers usually have "THANKYOU MARSHALL" or "PLEASE FLIP ME BACK 1ST" stencilled onto the underpan...aip47-2008 wrote:... Your good enough, your not on your lid.![]()

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
Luckily nothing has happened to me yet (knock on wood).
The worst I've seen was during a 1/8 race, guy was late to the grid and bolted to the track during the countdown. Unfortunately he crossed the track at the tone and was hit by a couple of 1/8's knocking him off his feet, resulting in a broken wrist.

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
I took and 8th scale truggy up my shin, gashed my shin and 'road rash" up the front of my leg.
Dude never lifted off the throttle and I had tire burns up the side of my leg next to the road rash and a burn near my kidney area from his engine.
Spun around and caught his front shock tower and just threw his buggy across the track cause he was a known douche. Broke both front arms off before he even lifted off the throttle.
He wondered why I was pissed

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
I only suffered one injury in my time thanks to my cat-like moves and reflexes. They used to call me "The Matrix". n/r
There was one time I was caught sleeping and took a full pace RC10GT to the back of the skull. I was pronounced dead at the scene by the Paramedics, but luckily Miracle Max showed up and let everyone know that I was only mostly dead.

Re: What is the worst injury from spotting?
Twisted my knee really badly one night marshaling an off-road race and later found I had a torn meniscus. Required arthroscopic surgery And about 3 months rehab.
