Another 10T Saved!

Post by clarkbre »

Long story short, when I was 14 I had a RC10T and my uncle got one as well. We built them together and he only ran his for a couple test drives before it got shelved; I regrettably sold mine for gas money a couples years later.

Fast forward 20+ years, my aunt and uncle are currently in an expedited housing downsize and I got thinking about all the stuff they have to move....including the RC10T. The thought has reignited my interested in the RC hobby and I am hoping my 5 year old son will take interest as well. After emailing my uncle about his truck, stating that my intentions were to bring it back to life and teach my kiddo about RC, I received a message from him tonight stating that his RC10T was mine! He said I could take it so he wouldn't have to move it. I should be taking ownership of it soon and plan to bring it back to life.

If I remember correctly, he had the 7001 kit and built it with the supplied mechanical speed control using a Futaba Magnum radio & servos. He never got around to painting the body and knowing him, it's probably still sitting in the original box. I seriously feel like a kid on Christmas morning!!!

He also sent the attached picture in his email....I'm the punk in the hat and that's his RC10T ready for wheels. Once I receive it, I will post pictures.

That's pretty cool, way to keep it in the family and get an opportunity to share it with your son. Your uncle sounds like a pretty awesome guy in his own right as well. Looking forward to more pics!

Very cool. Especially since it is in the family.

The truck should be a 7011 based on the gold shocks and mechanical speed control memories. The 7001 would have had team shocks and no mechanical.

I stand corrected. I got my numbers mixed up referencing another website. Based on my picture above, was the one he is holding a later model? I seem to remember the A arms and towers on my truck to be white.

Yeah 7011 had a long run. First was white plastics, then black composite arms, then the whole truck started going black with T2 black arms. iirc at the very end some even came with yellow wheels but I could be wrong

Well, I finally got the old RC10T from my uncle this weekend and it was in relatively good shape. He only ran it a few times before it was shelved. I decided to do a light modernization on it by updating the radio to 2.4ghz, a new ESC (the car previously had a mechanical speed control) and switched it over to Lipo. Over the weekend I took the transmission apart and regreased and cleaned everything. Otherwise, the truck will remain stock. The last thing to do before bringing it back to life is soldering the new wires and bullet connectors to the motor. I also have the original clear, uncut body with the decal sheet.

It is a runner for sure! I've got a happy kid learning to drive it. I like that with the new radio I can limit the throttle for a safe speed. The next step will be to paint and decal the original body.

That's awesome. I would probably get a repro body and save the original for display.

That is a great story, and very nice 10T. One of these days I'll dig mine out of the closet and get it going again too. 8)
