Where to buy screw sets??
I'm wanting to restore a couple of Optimas, and want to replace a lot of the screws. Could someone suggest anywhere online that sells screw sets, or general modelling screws?? What do you guys do for replacement screws?
Sorry for the boring question.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
RCScrewz makes stainless steel hex-headed screw sets for the Optima/Javelin series.

Great product and affordable too, about $20 per set.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
the stainless screws above are nice looking, but not as strong as black alloy steel. the problem with black steel screws is that they tend to surface rust easily in humid environments.
I have personally only used the standard black steel screws, or anodized aluminum.
for aluminum anodized in several colors:

for standard steel screws I buy in bulk packs (usually #100) of each size I need from:
mcmaster.com
mscdirect.com

That's exactly why I prefer stainless steel screws.aconsola wrote:the problem with black steel screws is that they tend to surface rust easily in humid environments.

I think the best thing to use if you want it to look original (black screws) would be the duratrax screw sets:

HPI makes equivalents to just about any Kyosho screw you may need. Phillips drive as well. They have not rusted on any of the projects I've used them on. You need to buy them in individual sized packs, as they do not have complete sets.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
I bought these.
S/Steel and allen hex heads. 400pc.
Is great for metric sctrews . I used these on my Pro Cat throughout. Should fit most of the Kyosho's screws but NOT all i say.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
It's worthwhile to mention that generic screw sets won't have some of the more oddball-sized screws used for the Optima series, like the long ones that hold the gearbox together or the really small 2.6mm threaded ones used with the frame rails, steering linkage & the rear joint. With the RCScrewz kits, you get pretty much *every* screw you need to build the car.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
Sweet! I have 2 packs of RCScrewz for Optima Mid and Turbo Optima Mid. Great quality and price. The only drawback imho is the "color" and the US hex-size (which is a good thing for others)sheriff wrote:Many thanks for all the replies. All good for future reference.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
Actually, I don't think the hex sizes are Standard, they're Metric. I have a set of Dynamite hex drivers in Metric and they work perfectly with the RCScrewz Optima kit.j0pp3 wrote:The only drawback imho is the "color" and the US hex-size (which is a good thing for others)sheriff wrote:Many thanks for all the replies. Re: Where to buy screw sets??
Uuuups! You are right. I checked again and they are 1.5mm, 2.0mm and 2.5mm hexes. The 1.5mm is only for the motor pinion I think.Coelacanth wrote: Actually, I don't think the hex sizes are Standard, they're Metric. Re: Where to buy screw sets??
Are there any screw kits like the one Highwayracer posted in a standard (not metric) set? I'm putting together a Hot Trick Optima and all my extra screws are from torn down Kyoshos or Tamiyas.

Re: Where to buy screw sets??
I want to bump this because I never found screws for Hot Trick parts. I finally got back to working on this today and the Optima ones I have (new and old) don't work well with the Hot Trick parts. Are there any standard screw sets for rc?
