RC10T - Bringing back the fun
I have to keep telling myself I WILL run this truck. I usually end up rebuilding them and they end up too nice to run. I have to switch off that part of the brain, chuck this one on the ground and give it hell, a throwback to the fun of where it all started. This truck was mostly built from left over original parts and a handful of rerelease parts.
I don't really know which direction I want to go with this from here, do I just run modern brushless gear or do I completely throwback to the good old days and run a brushed set up? I like the fact of a maintenance free power system but at the same time I have a near new Tekin Rebel that I can use, the massive gold fins are quite iconic. Do I put up with the idiosyncrasies of brushed motors just to keep it OG? I've got all the gear to cut the comm and rebuild the motor from time to time.
Suggestions?

That's a sweet piece. I would shelf that one and get me one to play with.

I understand and sympathize with your dilemma
Newer tires + brushless = nice runner

Thanks guys, it is a pretty clean truck but received all the bottom of the pile stuff. They are all the left overs from the last two trucks of the vicious cycle.
The only parts I'd really be bummed about if I broke would be an arm or front bumper. I'd also rather knobby tires but can't see the point of just ruining them on the street.

Here's the Rebel I dug out.... I never really liked them much back in the day though as I was a Novak fan, but now I appreciate the "classic" look and features it had of the time.

Re: RC10T - Bringing back the fun
I plugged in all the electronics and everything works well, no glitching that I could tell with an early Futaba Magnum Junior radio. I set up the Rebel and it works fine, but, if I'm going to build a race inspired truck a Novak Cyclone is a better choice.
I just wish someone made a narrow Team 10T body.
This is just awesome... Thanks Scr8p.

My reedy Ti modified 7-2 will put that truck back on the leader board. I would go OG for sure on T. If it were a T3 or T4 then whatever, but the 1st gen needs the special lightweight treatment ....I have some sweet appropriate motors for that thing.
Man I miss my T.

Re: RC10T - Bringing back the fun
I found some other Tekin ESC's that seem more age appropriate, the Novak Cyclone is too late of a date 97/98 where this truck would be 92/93? The Rebel is too late too...
I don't know much about Tekin but these are the ESC's I found.
Tekin TSC 411P circa '91
Tekin TSC 412P circa '94
Tekin TSC P-12 circa '96
I think I'll test the 411 and 412 to see if they work.
Kinda fun building a dated truck....

Re: RC10T - Bringing back the fun
Awesome, I tested a decent looking Speed Star 412P and it seems to work perfectly. I think I finally decided on my electronics package.
Futaba FP-T2PKA Magnum Junior Radio
Futaba FP-R102JE Receiver
Futaba FP-S148 Servo
I don't have a motor yet that I'm happy with but looking to pick up an old Reedy Ultra series. Or just trying the Mabuchi motor I have since it's the correct date and the same colors as everything else, black and gold.

Re: RC10T - Bringing back the fun
The 411p would definitely be more era correct. But the 412p is a good esc too. Can handle down to a 10t.

Re: RC10T - Bringing back the fun
I wanted to use the 411P but it's a bit rough, needs a rewire and a bit of polish, that is if it even works still. The 412P looks much better and still retains the original Tekin wire and switch. I'll try to spruce up the 411 but for the meantime the 412 will do.
Looking for reedy sonic motors now is a pain since AE started using the name again.

Correct....scr8p wrote:You want an Ultra right?
And also a sonic to go on display with a couple of other Reedy motors
