Hello from California's Central Coast

Post by batman3n1 »

Wanted to take a minute and say hi to everyone. I found this sight while searching for parts for the "86 Blackfoot I'm currently working on. It was something I took up when I needed a little me time. It hasn't been used much over the last 25 or so years and I recently got a wild hair up my arce to get it running again. I upgraded it pretty extensively, back in the day, and am enjoying searching for parts that are in need of repair or replacement simply from age.

One question I have right now is about the motor. Back then I had upgraded to the Team Losi MTM Revolution. It has a gold label with black lettering over a black can. It seems to be working ok. I changed the brushes out and oiled it up. Can anyone tell me anything about this motor? Also, is there a faster replacement I can buy. Being out of the hobby for so long, I'm hoping things have gotten better, faster, more reliable? I'll try to post a few pics when I get the time.

Thanks in advance for any input and again, howdy.

There are much faster motors but unless you upgraded the transmission to include a thorp or Robinson ball diff then your drivetrain will eventually grenade with a faster motor.

p.s. make sure you edit your profile to include your location.

Hi... One of the first things I did was to upgrade to the Thorp Dirt Burner tranny. Could you possibly point me in the right direction for a motor upgrade? It's been so long, I don't even know what's available or what to ask for. I'm sure there's probably some spec I need to adhere to. That's why I'm wanting to determine what I have now, so I don't buy something I can't use.

Thanks

Yes... it's older, like everything else. Msonik-4, RV-15.

Those ESC's have a 15 turn motor limit . A 15 turn motor in your Blackfoot would boost speed considerably. It's been my experience while those esc's have a 15 turn limit, they don't put out enough forward amps to power the motor meaning you'll get lackluster acceleration. With your current ESC I wouldn't go anything less than a 20 turn motor.
