Ya don't need a bumper if you stay ahead of everyone else
But seriously.... Looks good! The art of a nice bumper is long past, nowadays nobody has a good old school bumper

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

The way I drive, I won't be anywhere near the front of the pack...and more likely to be getting acquainted with the walls.gomachv wrote:Ya don't need a bumper if you stay ahead of everyone else

Exterior Done
I wasn't totally happy with my original placement of the taillights/corner marker lights, they were on a tad too high. I tried removing the bottom bumper sticker (the rear stickers are divided into two, the upper part with the taillights & license plate, the lower part with bumper & bumperettes)...the sticker pulled off, but left behind gucky residue, and I had to throw out that one. I was pleasantly surprised that the upper sticker & corner marker stickers pulled off quite easily after I heated it up first with a hair dryer. I'm impressed with the durability of this inkjet vinyl sticker paper, I was able to re-apply these ones, this time lower down in a more accurate position. I X-Acto'd out another bumper sticker and re-applied it.
I'm still waiting for a 17.5T motor and program card for the ESC, but the exterior, body posts & body fitment are done. Here are the body-on money shots.

Electronics installed
I received my motor today from somebody on RCTech that was selling about 10 Trinity motors; this one was a Revtech Kill Shot 17.5T. Cleaned it up, gave it a modest timing advance and figured out a way to solder it in that wouldn't cause the motor wires to bind or obstruct the pod action. I can't properly adjust the ESC until I get the program box for it. The one annoying thing about this 1-cell TrackStar ESC is that it's all but useless without the program box (available separately, of course). All my other ESCs can be programmed manually by going into "program mode" and listening to beeps while doing transmitter trigger presses. The only thing you can do with this ESC, out-of-the-box, is set the throttle end-points...and since this one is set to only do forward and brake by default, it won't even go in reverse yet. IMO, if the thing is practically useless without the program card, the damn card should be included.
Anyway, it all works great otherwise. Way too much power for the kitchen linoleum, but I had enough room to creep along, and I couldn't resist the urge to gun it and do some spin-outs.
What's left to do is balance the chassis left/right, it's obviously too pudgy on the left side due to the LiPo battery.

I got those ones as a tire & wheel set from AsiaTees.com, I believe the brand is Xceed...they make them in black & white, 1/10 & 1/12, and different tire compounds. The wheels are carbon.vintage AE wrote:Just wondering where you are getting the tires from?

Re: RC12L3 Resto: '87 Buick GNX Build: Finished
Thanks! However there was one detail that bothered me the most, something that I couldn't easily modify, and that's the lack of hood bulge that the GN has, and the 'Carlo doesn't...but there's simply no easy way to do that.PlastiZapCA+ wrote:That body looks so perfect with those decals.

Looks great! A 12th scale piece is one of the holes on my shelf. It would be cool if you could hunt up some aluminum rims for when you're in the mood for a different look.

And then there were two...
I just finished this build for a GN fan in Ohio who saw my car posted on the http://www.turbobuick.com forums. Thanks to Jeff for helping out so much by providing a 1/12 pan car and all the trimmings, except body.

You should fab a hood bulge out of styrene or similar, double side tape it to the hood. Not perfect, but better than nothing if done right.

Re: RC12L3 Resto: '87 Buick GNX Build: Finished
I've given that a lot of thought, trust me...I just couldn't figure out a way to implement it properly. My idea was to find a hood scoop on some other Lexan body and cut it out, then somehow mount it reversed on the hood. I just never found a scoop that looked right, at the right scale.

Why has that body never been produced?? I'd love to have one.
I'm not like them, but I can pretend...
