New in box

Hi all,

I'd like to preface this post with an apology, since I see how this sort of thread could be a nuisance to RC10 advocates.

I was looking through some old stuff around my parents' house and it turns out my late grandfather had an RC10 that he left behind. It has never been opened and the box is still wrapped in its original plastic. I don't know what year it's from, but it would have been sometime in the 1980s. The side of the box says "#6016 $290". I have no intention of selling it, especially since it is part of my father's inheritance. I'm just curious as to how much you all think it is worth. Any ideas?

All you can do is go by what people are actually paying for them on ebay.

That's a great find, and certainly worth keeping. The value will drop quite a bit if you remove the shrink wrap. Ebay is the best way to see prices. Search for completed auctions and plug in various descriptions. It may take some searching to find something NIB. Post a photo, I'd love to see what you have.

Since it is shrink wrapped it should have the Cadillac Street address printed on the box. This would make it 1986 and up mfg. date. AE did not shrink wrap the first "Edinger" kits.

Thanks for your replies. Here are your requested photos. I do see an address on the box for Associated Electrics on Cadillac Ave. in Costa Mesa. Not sure why the masking tape is there. It has been adhered to the shrink wrap.

it all depends on you. are you an rc guy or do you want to cash in on the little gold nugget that your grandpa left you? i would say just rip into it, build it, and enjoy what your grandpa didn't. you'll appreciate it more. put it on a shelf somewhere when family comes over so you could talk about it. there's no price you could put on that. keeping it unopened in a closet isn't doing it justice.

there are a ton of these rc10's around. and new kit boxes are out there in numbers too. but if you're looking to see what they are valued at do what the guys before me said, look up what previous new unopened kits have gone for.

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. I don't have any intention of selling it. I just wanted to know how much it was worth and, I suppose sort of as an homage to my grandfather, engage in some light discussion about the car with some folks who might better understand (and confirm) how neat it was that my grandfather preserved it. I'm not really the sentimental type myself, to be honest. But knowing that at least one of you would call the car priceless does make me feel a little warm and fuzzy. So thanks again.
