I figured that these were the precursor to the "foam things". I mean they are called "Link End Seals", Well, at least now I too, know. Good info. Thanks!

I was always wondering about them, ".....why on earth do I need those?...." :?

...and now we know.

It's not like their use was obvious (well to me at least)! :o

I had a bag of those ballons, they never were used so the rubber got bad over time. I think ended in the bin at some point.
Beside this picture I never saw them at any Losi car. I´m not sure if they really do any good.
You have to see those telescopic driveshafts actully look like a good idea, but they tend to stick under acceleration what prevent the suspension from working. For this reason the white driveshafts were introduced which had less friction and less stick.
I think the ballons will add more friction to the driveshaft assembly.

My friends and me were running Losi cars for a long time. We never used those ballons but found teflon spray working really good. Much less friction and no problems with dirt.

It's funny, all the Losi instructions that I've ever seen clearly show the female half of the slider connected to the transmission out-drives, that photo quite obviously contradicts that!
