baby steps- ordering a few minor items like gears and a fuel tank first. Sit down for this one...it has friction shocks. HUGE ass friction shocks. Those gotta go. Its gonna get some G10 goodies too, the metal towers and radio tray are super wimpy.

i decided to take a gamble on the rediculously cheap turnigy trackstar 120amp esc. ($43!!!)

it arrived today along with a program card and a 17.5 trackstar motor.

not a bad looking unit, we'll have to wait to see how it does. might put it in my new scorpion for a while.

Kyosho Lazer Alpha with Skyline body. Have some mixed feelings about this one:
- Body painted very bright orange with Calsonic stickers and painted windows (black, but still...hate that), but in excellent condition.
- Broken front suspension (was shown in pictures), but also broken chassis and front gear box (not so). One the other hand, Lazer ZX wishbones.
- Shock towers are aftermarket FRP but for another car, adaptation of rear tower is okay, front tower was misdrilled  and probably will need to be chucked out unless I can somehow salvage it (grrr...)
- Fixed length upper links replaced by Tamiya turnbuckles, one of which was also used for the most bone-headed chassis stiffener I have ever seen: two lengths of 5 mm aluminum rod glued to two plastic sleeves attached together by the turnbuckle, and the whole thing wedged between the shock towers and glued into place using blue threadlock   I was able to remove the whole thing by lightly pulling on one of the ends...
- Car has ball bearings and two ball diffs, plus front lightweight universals (Kose, I guess). :D
- All screws threadlocked into place, including those that go into plastic. Motor mount butchered, spur coated in grease, spur cover too (WHYY!?) However, I suspect a lot of the screws are actually titanium screws.
- Bumpers made of styrofoam doublesided to plastic parts.
- Finally, the car has slicks. Standard Kyosho slicks. Which the previous owner covered with Tamiya caps (rain tires that fit over FOAMS). Which apparently didn't fit well, got torn off (partially) and dried out. The slicks that are underneath are, like, brand new.

I think the condition of the body (ignoring the color) is directly proportional to the degree of technicity of the homemade modifications (which all have a serious degree of suck). That probably means the ball diffs and other unmodified parts are in decent condition because the car was undrivable.

I have had a couple the first one failed after 9 months of abuse and me getting the idea to turn up the drive frequency the second is still going strong. I would buy another but would never crank up the drive frequency for offroad again.

I got this motor today, a handout motor from the 1999 roar nats. Supposedly it was never ran, out of the handout motors the guy used, the other one had a better dyno so this one wasn't ran.

Lol I got it for under $10 shipped so I can't complain! It looks to be decently tuned as well but I haven't hooked it up to anything yet. Not sure if I will anyways

Hi,

If it was my motor I would get a nice piece of timber cut a square out, varnish it, drill a hole for the

motor shaft and put it on display. :!:

Dave. :)

Red Oak, Tigers Eye Maple, Purple Heart or some Iron Wood. Best suggestion ever Dave.

Hi Guys,

Thank you Dave,

Please don't tell anyone I have not done it myself yet, it is an idea I have had for a while. :D

Oh, I nearly forgot a nicely routed edge on the piece of timber as well. :!:

Dave. :)

Awesome idea! I like the idea of leaving the bark on it an just cutting a slice out if a branch and putting varnish on it. If I can get some free time I might give it a whirl, doesn't sound too hard
