An Observation - What is with wives lately?

Post by mrlexan »

Just an observation, considering my personal situation and also talking to a few other members, it seems the moon and planets must be in some sort of alignment to set off our wives about our addictive hobby. What is what the wives lately? I can't do anything without getting the third degree.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Jay,
Your wife needs a hobby too.
My wife has enough fabric stashed about the house for her quilting projects that she could make a wardrobe for most of us and still have enough for a quilt or 3. She has fabric that she bought just to have.
"it's too nice to use" she says or "if I use it than I won't have it to use in the future" so she buys more.

I don't get any flack since she started quilting, especially since I surprised her with the sewing machine(a few weeks before buying my 1/5 scale )
now we spend quality time together on oppsoite sides of the hobby room :D

Indeed! It's much harder for her to complain about RC expenditures when she's out spending on her passions too. What's really nice is when those addictions meet.

Mine is in her last semester of nursing school. If I stay quiet and still long enough, she forgets I'm there at all.

But seriously, she fell in love with the boys little ATV. I expect to see more of her in the garage when her car is finished and she goes back to work.
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

We tried that. I bought a spare clod from the consignment section of the lhs, painted it pearl pink, and it was run for about 5 minutes and then put on the shelf and eventually ebayed.

About the only time our hobbies cross is when she has mechaincal or software issues with the sewing or embroidery machines.

She also spends as much time on the quilting forums as I spend on here.

I don't know what it is...

I have raced 3 times in 2008 so far including two Sundays ago. When Kim asked me if I was racing this weekend or not, I replied, "I donno, I'm 50/50 right now."

Her response was, "so are you going to be leaving me EVERY weekend to race now?"

:| :x

<maybe>

I believe the comment I got in December was, "I can't buy presents or go shopping because you're always home!"

I can't win.

Since the baby came, and since i've taken a new-found interest in the vintage, I've gone to the track a bit more than when we were dating. Im trying to help promote the Vintage class, but I promised her I wouldn't be at the track every week.

It was one of those same scenarios as well.

her: Why didn't/ weren't you into RC while we were dating? You hardly even touched your cars in the time we've dated

me: I dunno. I miss racing and being around people at the track. Plus i've gotten a new-found interest in Vintage. Not to mention, i didn't have the budget to upgrade some much needed equipment. Now that i can be competitive, I want to go to the track again.

Her: So is this going to become a weekly thing? Do you plan on taking the baby to the track? You'll watch him all the time, right?

me: *Sigh*

I'm pretty lucky, I've got a girlfriend that supports my addictions. She is out running my trucks with me, and enjoys every minute of it. She doesn't wrench on them, but she enjoys driving them. My other hobby is brewing beer, which I've yet to find a person not willing to share in the culmination of my efforts. And we both love camping. She likes to to shop, which I tolerate and there are some places I will not go. Thankfully, most of her shopping is done when she takes breaks at work, so I don't even have to be there.  Though when I do go, I'm usually rewarded with a stop off at the pub.

The girls here in the office are type-A, OCD and completely out of their minds. One just walked by my office and a split second my phone rang... it was her asking me for a print out of a project we're trying to get out to a client today. :|

The next time a woman in my life does something logical and rational, will be the first time.

I am glad it is not just me.

My wife does have a hobby, she is into scrapbooking and has TONS of the stuff (well, not as much crap as I do). The problem is, she went from a 1900 sq ft house (or 3500 sq ft with the basement) with her own "Scrapping" room to a 2 bedrrom 900 sq ft apartment and I have filled the spare bedroom with stuff. She has not place to do anything. Hence all my auctions, I am trying to get rid of enough stuff in the apartment to make space so that I can give her space to get her occupied again. I did buy her her own laptop, but that only lasted so long.

She is just ridding me pretty hard on a daily basis and I keep thinking "I heard you yesterday and the day before..... give me an A for effort would ya"

Tell her that you can put her to the curb just as easily as your RC collection, it's her choice.

I'm just kidding, of course. Have you tried explaining that you're trying to get your inventory whittled down so that she'll have a place to play too? 8)
