1/35 WWI British Mark IV male tank RC conversion
Not sure what's up with my blurry pics but...
Being a big World War and tank fan this was an easy purchase. I don't do models but since this is a motorized model, I should be able to convert it to RC. It's only 1/35 scale so it's small, but perfect for the trenches in my garden.
To start. The tank comes with 1 motor/gearbox that drives both rear sprockets letting the tank run aimlessly at scale speed. The motor mounts on a perch but Tamiya has included a second perch for another motor/gearbox right next to it. (at right in pic) No doubt Tamiya has plans to release this in RC. So the search began for a second motor/gearbox.
Found 2 on the bay. For electronics, I'm going to steal the ESC/receiver from my 1/35 Panther RC tank which I recently retired.
This is a fun build and Tamiya really put together a nice kit. Some steps are tedious, like the road wheels where they were either 2 or 4 pieces each. And the tracks which come in individual pieces and need to be put together.
Tracks painted light gunmetal, waiting for weathering.

Re: 1/35 British Mark IV male tank RC conversion
I was going to go all out and paint the inside white like it should be but after painting up the 7lb. guns I realized I would have to leave a part off to fit the batteries in the hull so I scraped that idea. (piece at bottom is what is being left out)
Ready for paint.
I don't own an airbrush so I cant mix the suggested colors so I'll be spraying it with Tamiya TS-68, wooden deck tan. First, Tamiya fine surface primer.
Lots of weathering to come.

Tank is modeled after B28 Black Arrow II, fought in Fontaine Notre Dame, France 11-23-17, defeated and captured by the Germans.
Lots of weathering. I used thinned paint and some Tamiya weathering sets.
I left the rear hatch open to show the white interior of the door.
Still need to add un-ditching rail and tow cable but the painting, detailing is done.
Next, electronics, drivetrain.

That looks so real! Reminds me of an old Indiana Jones movie

Thanks fellas. The female version had machine guns only, no 7lb. guns. And yes, it should remind you of the tank in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. That tank was a replica of a later version, Mark VII I think.

Tamiya MC-04 tank control unit snatched from my 1/35 Panther tank fits perfectly at the front of the hull. Twin motors tucked in the rear.

Re: 1/35 WWI British Mark IV male tank RC conversion
I had to solder a white wire onto the 4-cell AA battery holder for the MC-04 to work right. Batteries are easily accessible through the sponson.
Tank is now running. Did a test run in the basement and everything is good. Tank is super slow and I'm not expecting any real off-road performance. It gained a lot of weight and the tracks aren't too strong. Being only 1/35 scale doesn't help either...
For scale reference, a Peace one dollar coin. Minted to commemorate the end of the Great War.
Artsy outdoor running pics as soon as the snow melts.

Thanks.
Finally got all the details done and took it outside for its 1st outdoor run. It handled mulch pretty well for a 1/35 scale.
