Working on a Monster Buggy

Haven't posted in a while. I traded a worn out Serpent for this worn out Monster Buggy a couple of years ago, been sitting in the closet ever since. No body, busted roll cage and a bag full of transmission parts and a carburetor.

Right off I noticed the chassis was bent, so the tear down began.

Chassis was twisted, bent and bowed. Pressed and beat on it until it sits flat, best I could.

So that's where it sits after a couple of days work. Motor turns and seems to have good compression, I need to sort the bag of trans parts out and compare to the diagram, hope I have everything. One each of the wheels is painted silver, stripped one already.

Wow! That buggy is huge and nice job bending the chassis back where it needs to be. Who makes this? I see you posted it in the Traxxas forum but I never knew they made something that big.

Original name was Traxxas Monster Buggy, for some reason they renamed it to simply 1/6 gas buggy

These are a blast, not as fast as nimble as the newer stuff but bitd it was killer!

Lookin good on the chassis repair. Must've been one helluva hit to bend that chassis...but then traxxas never really overdid the chassis thicknesses on any of their vehicles. But for as bent as the chassis was I'd expected more carnage.

There used to be a local who collected these things and they were plain awesome to see run. You think getting hit with an rc10 at full speed hurts the ankles...I'm betting this might hurt a lil bit more

Yes, it's a Traxxas. I drooled over these years ago and finally made a trade for this project. The chassis is actually a tad over 1/8" thickness aluminum, was not the easiest to put back where it was supposed to be.

Oh yeah the ole Monster buggy, Had one BITD........was one crazy ass loud buggy, unfortunately mine had blown a piston (prob due to my ignorance at the time with too lean of a fuel mixture). Thing was pretty wicked as I can remember, like a chainsaw on wheels. I never fixed the piston, the buggy sat for sometime, and ended up selling it a few years ago. They also made a on-road version which had a Mercedes type ABS body. (Very rare)

Good luck with the project. Always cool to see these again.

Does anyone with one of these have the time to measure the body ? Front width, rear width and length. Side front height, rear height and length ?

New roll cage is on the way along with shock rebuild kits. Guess I'm going to have to wing it on the body.

Cool project! I have always wanted one of these since the first time I saw one at my LHS years ago. Look forward to seeing this come together.

Might take a while, I haven't even looked at the bag of tranny parts yet.

There's a buggy on the auction site looks to be bent some in the same area as this one I have. Seems to be a weak spot at the lower support for the front tower. I wonder if this could be improved on ?
