something in the 7/32" - 1/4" range.

you will probably need a washer behind the nut, and also a very thin wall socket to fit inside the wheel to tighten it.

Will any associated 12mm hex work or is there a specific one and only? I have found a variety of hex and trying to get the right one.

any 12mm hex for a 3/16" axle will work. you just have to find one with the correct width. i don't know the mfg. of mine, they were just some plastic ones I had laying in a drawer that kept me at the stock track width.
