My Maxxum FF

Post by fristajlo »

Another find in the local ads. Pretty much unused, unpainted original body and totally complete aside from the rear wing.
It's a really odd chassis design and I can't imagine it being fast on the track ;)

I have a Maxxum too, had one BITD as well. Neat car but as mentioned not a great car for the tracks with a lot of jumps

In building the A-Main Bullet FWD I was chatting with one of the people that designed it and they commented that it wasn't really any faster than rwd, but it took the corners so differently that it irritated the rwd cars and was more of a "psych out". When they were banned in rwd, they couldn't touch a 4wd so they faded out

About the only tracks they could do well on were smooth, packed, cement...anything that would negatively affect front wheel traction was exacerbated with FWD offroad cars. They aren't effective offroad buggies without a lot of re-engineering. They can perform well in an on-road environment, though.

Thanks, some great input there :)
I love the way it's engineered, a nice piece of vintage kyosho.
Anyone knows where to find a rear spoiler for this?

It can...but wasn't originally equipped with one tho. In the manual it shows how to install it.

The original spoiler is just a bit of curved lexan glued to the main body, isn't it?

Sorry, yes it was just a curved piece of lexan that double sided taped to body detents. it was originally molded in with the body so you would have to get a full body or make something. There is an option to use an optima mid/lazer zx wing stay to mount a standard wing though.

I almost had a new Maxxum FF years ago but wasn't able to get it. We were on our way up to get it and it was snowy out and ended up in an accident. My Maxxum money went for the towing bill. That made me mad. I've had money to get another one but i guess i lost interest in it and never got one.
