I've never been big on Jap cars but don't mind some of the early GT racing cars. I always like the different home made stuff that comes out of peoples garages.

I've wanted to do this for quite a while now, but after seeing huggers woody it got me off my butt to actually do it. We race a spec class touring car and I built this to be different. I don't care how well I do but just to have fun, a Nissan Sunny amongst a sea of typical tourers. The spec class is full of some pretty rough drivers and is the second fastest class. If they are just too rough I might drop down to 21.5 blinky which is quite a bit slower but has better drivers.

I'm not finished with it yet as I need some more decals etc. I also want to make a fake race style tube exhaust out the side with an LED in it that flashes twice every time you back off the throttle. There are two ways I thought about doing it but want to talk to a local electronics guru for opinions first. I'd also like to get some small wire and tie it to the front body pins, drill two small holes in the grill to poke the wire through for more realistic hood pins.

I did actually, I think the real car is possibly from the Nissan heritage collection? My rendition didn't turn out as good as I hoped but still looks good I think. Next time I'll use a slightly darker red. I could also use some "normal sized" rims but then it would just look dubbed. These rims are the only small looking rims I could find that fit standard touring car tires, surely there are others but I haven't searched extensively either.

It does look much better with the body mounted lower but the front tires rub on the fenders. A few more stickers and off we go. I think the real car is shorter so the body has been extended to fit a standard touring car, thus it doesn't look as wide.

Same here, I'm not a mainstream guy and appreciate the unique and different builds. Would be interesting se eing it amongst the touring cars, hopefully it inspires others for a more VTA style of class with standard TC rubber. I thought about masking the rim and painting the lip silver for a more racey look. Maybe I'll try that with the next set.

That was kind of my motivation to build an RC12 with a Monte Carlo body painted as a Buick Grand National...seeing that GN standing out like a badass black sheep in a field of aerodynamic generic pan car bodies would be pretty cool.

What about chrome tape cut into the right length and width for the wheel lip?

You'd have a join but it'd be easy to do and replace.

Chrome tape like the bare metal foil would be good, I've never used it before and not being a good modeler painting is the easy way out I'll get another set of rims and experiment. I'll probably move the number plates on the sides forwards when I find some decals, it didn't look right when I first put them there.

You can definately see the body is out of proportion compared to the real car.
