Kyosho noob question about different Ultima configurations
Guys I honestly tried the search thing while on duty and need something more concrete. I'm a AE/Losi guy and lost with this brand. My buddy is giving me a Sideways....pretty much a time capsule RTR. I'm tracking it's based off the Ultima chassis and from what I read, a dozen dang cars (like Tamiya) are based off this chassis. Also seems the Turbo is different however from pics it looks like the same C channel chassis. Then obviously a later graphite or whatever chassis that wouldn't work for supplying parts. Then what's up with the Optima popping up in my Ultima searches. Just trying to search around for possible donor parts cars in case this thing is damaged. So do I search 1st gen ultima, vintage ultima, pos ultima? Is there a designator number I'm not seeing for the Ultima to use for the sideways? Maybe Phin can post up his automated Google and make me feel retarded. Lol

Click the link in my sig, navigate to "links" and there you can download the Kyosho parts guide. It shows the exploded view of the sideways and also has a parts cross reference in the back
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

Ok but what if I see something on fleabay. Any different chassis colors? Heard something about the top plates. I'll check that info out for sure. As soon as my buddy told me he was leaving Ft. Drum to go home to cali, I remembered him saying they had a couple old RC cars in the attic. I saw a couple pics and looks stock and complete RTR with futaba gear. I'm just paying shipping. Then it's on to figuring what else he has.

Aluminum chassis are dimensionally the same between the Original, Turbo and Sideways but the anodizing did change. Top decks from any of the factory flat chassis cars wont work on the Sideways but almost all the rest of the parts are the same. The Pro X did have different suspension arms though.
Cheapest donor cars for replacement suspension and transmission parts is an Outrage.

And anything for the Ultima RB, RB-5, and RB-6 (essentially, all Ultimas produced after 1995) is not compatible.Phin wrote:Aluminum chassis are dimensionally the same between the Original, Turbo and Sideways but the anodizing did change. Re: Kyosho noob question about different Ultima configuratio
Sideways and Ultima and Ultima Turbo shares the same chassis.
Ultima and Sideways chassis are Natural aluminum with non-countersunk holes.
Turbo Ultima chassis is "Brownish" anodised and has countersunk holes.
The topdecks are all different:
Ultima - Plastic
Sideways - Plastic, but differs from Ultima
Turbo Ultima - Black FRP

Re: Kyosho noob question about different Ultima configuratio
I'm guessing the brownish-colored aluminum in the Turbo Ultima and the chassis plate of the Turbo Optima Mid SE (also countersunk holes) is hard-anodized...can anyone confirm this?

Re: Kyosho noob question about different Ultima configuratio
Thanks guys, finally something in black & white. My buddy has been sending in pics. Looks like nothing is broken. So might not need any parts. Still the ugliest sprint car I ever saw. The Losi Slider was even better looking. Lol
Re: Kyosho noob question about different Ultima configuratio
There were two different monocoque duralum chassis that were dimensionally the same. The MK1 used standard head fastners and the Turbo was countersunk and thicker with a hard anodizing. The Turbo chassis also had threaded holes for the top deck to mount to rails vs the screw and nut method of the MK1.

Looks like it is in great shape
I think you may just need a teardown/cleaning/reassembly.
I may have some parts for it if you find anything broken/missing. I got one as part of a trade.
Unfortunately, there were too many parts missing to rebuild the car

In the mail and should be here Friday. Don't know if I'll do a build thread since I just plan on dusting it off and putting it up.
