New build Tomahawk

Been wanting to share his with everyone here. I bought this guy mostly complete with everything needed to finish it off. I still need to change out some of the electronics to suit my ideals. As of now it has a new Lemans 240sb motor, a nice example Novak 4 esc, and a non period correct JR servo. It is just a shelf queen, but the more it looks ready to run the better. I have a vintage Kyosho esc, just not sure if its period correct or not...I'll get some pics of that soon as well and some better shots with the top down

Wow guys! Thanks so much for the info! This car is going to live on a shelf. And like one of you mentioned, everything on it is new. Speed control wise, I'll post up the esc choices I have and let you guys help me decide on one of them or if a mech controller should live there instead. I'll try and get the pics up later on tonite. the brake worked via the Yellow wire which caused a resistor feedback loop this was used in slot cars for years. this was the original ciruit for reverse which is rewired in the 4 speed setup, the motor is a generator when moving without power applied so you would use the free power it made to induce a feedback loop the resistor acted as load and slowed the car down faster then just coasting. some guys used to mod MSCs back in the day and cut the yellow wire and install an adjustable resistor on another return circuit.
they would also modulate the power to the motor with a 555 timer chip which pulsed the motor power just like a ESC thus the motor ran cooler and you gained battery efficiency all kinds of cool MSCs tricks back in the day.

Wow, this is info that I never knew about before. Do you know of any pics that show these mods?

It looks pretty sweet! If you are going for OEM and keeping it 100% original, it looks like your shocks are 10mm and the Tomahawk came with 8mm. I had the same issue with mine. It seems the slimmer 8mm shocks are pretty hard to come by. I finally found some, but the anodize was scratched, I ended up sanding them down smooth and still not sure what to do. I would like to get them re-anodized, but most places charge a hefty minimum fee

As for the MSC, you will find a decent NIP one pop up on evilbay soon. I got one under $20 and the resistor pack was around $5. Definitely not the best set up for a runner, but it looks nice installed for the shelf!

I really wonder if Kyosho actually sold Tomahawks with the 10mm shocks and the spiked Sand Supers.
I have seen quite a few on the net and have one myself that is built with them.
Maybe towards the end of the run they substituted them?
Seems I remember a thread on Tamiyaclub where a few with NIB's had the spiked tires.

I first had 10mm shocks on mine and they just seemed too big. There was not a lot of room for play between the front stays and the springs. You may be right about that Mike I assume the 10mm dampers are easier to find because more models used them than the 8mm?
