My worlds car.....gets mangled
I'm tellin you, it was heinous.....mad heinous.
The thing just took off by itself...5700kv geared high
Goes across a parking lot full throttle into the curb. It smashed the curb at like what must've been at least 50...the tires are screaming, it fights it's way up the curb....and somehow ends up in a beeline right on his narrow sidewalk surrounded by grass straight towards these 2 women and their 5-6 kids sitting at a picnic table after football practice like 200 hundred yards away....
It was as if I was aiming for them...All mangled, the thing jumped the curb, stayed on the narrow strip of cement ,perfectly straight....went another 200 ft right ino the picnic table....bounced off back into The parking lot between a couple of parked cars n finally flipped over....
A brothe was at the other end of the parking lot mortified.
I'm lucky I don't have a lawsuit.
Some guy picked it up and was holding it while the tires were screaming....I ran over there n shut it off...
I was apologizing....and they were all smiles as if nothing happened.
I apologized to the women.....same thing....As if nothing happend..(the one sista was fine!!!....I'm just throwing that in there cause as I was apologizing I was thinking to myself "damn, she looks good")..
Meanwhile I came inches from mangling their cars AND their kids.
......and the stupid thing about it is all I had to do was shut off the receiver .....or just steer it into th bushes....
A lesson learned.
N I had the thing running freakin mint...
....................
Ah yes....now to the damage

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
What kind of receiver are you running? There is a way to program a 'fail safe' into most transmitter / receivers where if it isn't responding it will shut off I think.
Sorry to hear about this - car looks really mangled.

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
Thanks for all the condolences.
You know Geico or Allstate would've been talking about "it's a total loss".
The only thing that kinda pisses me off is when I first got it I was just off road bashing with the thing....Then I cleaned it up real good, got some hop ups n it was running so smooth, i didn't even wanna take it off road anymore. I was babying it. It was a rocket.
Now....fuggedaboudit....a freakin mangled mess.
It was crazy though....When it hit the curb, even though I knew it was bad (real bad) I felt relief cause it had stopped, or so I thought.(Cause there were a lot of kids around the far end of the parking lot).. n as I start walking towards it, I just see it jump the curb...and I guess as it jumped the curb it made a 90 degree turn n started heading straight towards the picnic table (aka the far end of the parking lot).....And I forgot to mention....Right by where the picnic table was, there was a parked ice cream truck with a few parents n kids all around.
I was like a deer stuck in the headlights once I saw it headed towards them, full bore.
N when it smacked the picnic table....I saw something black move/bounce .(must've been a bag or a purse or something)...I thought it was a kid....I thought I took out a crumb snatcher. A brother was traumatized.
.......................
I wonder if jconcepts sells the nuts on the bellcranks separately. I don't feel like dropping 30 bucks just to have the one nut. .....which I'll do regardless cause I gotta get my car back to where it was....I just rather not.
...........
Man, rcing can put a brother in the poor house.
AE drops the world car to 200 so I get another kit a few days ago....The day before yesterday I go into the hobby shop n order a gold chassis, nose plate n some ball cups.... Im about to order a pair of dhawk wheels, rear hubs and front caster blocks.....Now this.....
Eh, gotta have enjoyment......but I still don't feel like spending 30 bucks for one of the bell crank nuts.
................
My receiver....it's a kyosho kt201.
I changed the batteries right before I put my car down and all of a sudden the steering was reversed and the throttle trim was all wrong so I started messing with it. I put the car down and out of the blue like 5 seconds later it just took off.
N I had it geared up there....5700 kv motor ....27/81 ....with the 100c pack.....
Full throttle into the curb......then full throttle into the kids.

Kinda crazy that it looks like nothing else broke, just a bent chassis.

Not sure if I would trust that radio system again!
Maybe rebind/link RX and TX and then range test with pinion off?
This is one reason I only buy radios from Futaba. I would also trust Airtronics and Spectrum.

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled

Never heard of that Kyosho brand of receiver. I would be afraid to use that again. Any ideas as to what could have caused it?

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
I have seen way too many Spektrum combos (I guess they have been the low-end RTR setups?)
and at least one Traxxas combo lose control at our local gatherings.
- I have hardly ever seen a Futaba or Airtronics lose control.

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
Yeah....I should get a better remote.
I haven't liked that remote since day one and have been procrastinating getting another cause I've been spending so much money on parts n what not....I guess a good remote should be step one.
I remeber my friends losi 5t just wigged out n took off.....good thing it went for the woods cause that thing was like a bomb. He threw on 3 cut offs after that.
The damage wasn't catastrophic...lol
The chassis got spared.
After further inspection this morning, I just need a new nose plate...and nose braces... And I lost one of the nuts on the jconcepts bell cranks. I think the screws that hold in the steering instantly sheered off and spared the chassis. Chassis just has a lil bend by the screw hole for the nose brace. ....hopefully my servo is alright...haven't checked that yet.
.....n I'm happy the jconcepts turnbuckles stayed on during the fiasco ...(cause they're not cheap)....they were hanging, but they were all there.
Hopefully that's all.....
I just can't believe how the nose tube bent. (And how it kept going).....The car was MOVING

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
I've seen some pretty bent up noses in my day but that one is epic. No doubt that the material is a bit weaker than that of the originals and the speeds are much, much higher now. Glad to hear she sheared instead of bending.
You should email jconcepts and ask if they have the posts separately. They may just mail you one, never know. Show them the pics, maybe they will feel sorry for ya!

Re: My worlds car.....gets mangled
Lol...
I hope they do feel some form of mercy.
Like 15 minutes ago I called the hobby shop and ordered the nose plate, tubes and the bellcrank steering...
I'm gonna call jconcepts on Monday n hopefully I can get just that one piece and then have an extra full set.
....................
Just to try and explain what I was watching, cause it really did shake me up.....
It's a football field and right where it ends there's a fence. Right behind the fence there are like a coupe of feet of grass, then a real narrow sidewalk, then like two feet of grass on the other side and then the curb and the parking lot.
So the picnic table is right on the other side of the fence at the far end of the parking lot....and the ice cream truck had pulled up,nose first right up to the curb.
And there were kids all around the table AND all around the ice cream truck.....and this thing is flying straight down the middle like it had a gyro on it......and I'm mean flying.
N as it's happening I'm picturing a mother screaming cause her kid just got hit.....and after it hits the picnic table it bounces off n heads right for the ice cream truck which was like a few feet away...It seemed like forever....
I think the only reason it finally flipped was cause the wheel collapsed.
But it's kinda messed up cause now I'm gonna have that in my mind depending on where I'm riding.
I hope they do feel some form of mercy.

Craigslist ad (no pictures): RC10 Worlds, driven once, many hop ups.
Sorry about the crash, but that is pretty epic.
