Yokomo YR-F2 Special new build

Post by stephenianjames »

Hi guys,

I just wanted to express my excitement in purchasing a NIB (sealed) Yokomo YF-F2 SP. I've been looking for one of these suckers for a couple of years now, and obviously they are the rarest of the rare, but I finally tracked one down in my home city none the less! After handing over a small fortune, I immediately opened the factory seal to the sellers dismay...he couldn't believe my intention to build it up. I know it's more valueable in it's factory state but to me thew value in a shelf queen is to build and appreciate the thing for what it is...not to imagine the gleaming parts inside.

Would folks be interested in a build diary of this car? It may have been done before somewhere in the archives.

Cheers,

Steve

Yeah I know...I'm encouragable!

Haven't got time just yet to start the build, but watch this space...will hit in in 2-3 weeks hopefully.

The car is the Special...with Carbon fibre and upgrades from the standard so I'll leave it as a stock special...if that makes sense. They are quirky and blingy enough you catpture your attention in stock format!

Cheers,

Steve

Brilliant! Can't wait to see the pictures - I love these Fwd marvels, that rear suspension set-up was truely unique 8) Shame that over here they didn't really catch on, wish I'd brought one back then too, model shops couldn't give them away at one point!

Still regret I didn't buy the nib one I saw in a japanese shop about 4 years back. Picked up a used one (standard version with graphit chassis upgrade) about a year later. But it was a lot worse than it looked in the pics on yahoo auctions. Luckily I paid far less than I would have paid for a similar slab of carbon.

Anyway, yes please; lots of pics and a nicely detailed story!

I would read all that you write regarding this build. It's always interesting to read and see how people get down and dirty. I know of a few people that like to take the plastic bags during the initial build and use their canine teeth to rip it open. For me, I like to have a nice sharp scissor ready and cut the bags open and drop the parts into a container. Well, I was hoping that when you cracked open the sealed box....if you took in a nice long gulp of air inside the box....kinda like a new car smell when you first get inside. So was did you get stale air or did it smell like pizza?

I must admit I didn't inhale after opening! (sounds like a Clinton-esque admission to smoking dope)

I did however hack open the box seal with my car key  I will be sure to take great care with the build though...I have resisted the temptation to open any bags, but the quality of the carbon fibre and alloy bits is obvious! I'd love Yokomo to re=release this thing and I'd race it in TC class.

Beside the special YR-F2 parts is this car using also parts from other Yokomo cars as YR-4?
I have a bunch of new YR-F2 parts but not enough for building a complete car.

Very little parts in common: rear axle carriers and diff I believe... aside of turnbuckles and ballcups and some hardware ofcourse.
Edit : add bearings, front C-carriers and steeringknuckles

Sorry guys.... hadn't seen this thread at the times it was bumped up.

Regretfully I sold this kit a few years ago when I needed to raise some cash. I've since been on the lookout for one, and have been outbid of late on any I've seen.

I'd love to get my hands on another but they always slip away from me...
