RC10T Runner - Now retired for shelf duty

I was bored and had enough spare leftover parts that I'd likely never use so I put this monstrosity together. I like the fact it looks like a vintage RC car complete with patina. I put a boosted 10.5 brushless in it but am worried the MIP SP-1 wont survive, especially as it has no slipper. I think I might have to order a new stealth trans and swap it out of my OIN to use in this. I'll try rebuilding the SP-1 but I'd rather not break it as It's complete.

Can you get new rings, balls and thrust washers for the SP-1? Are they supposed to be flat or grooved?

I have a set of pretty used early white front arms that I wanted to use but don't have any rears.

Ha ha ha, black tubs with gold motor plates have always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but since I didn't have a black one I used a gold one. I don't want to spend a lot on this but I will need to get a few things.

It will mainly be a park hopper or used at the local track which is carpet. These tires and proline strikers were the hot tire. Traction at the track is high enough to pull the tire out of the 3 piece rims. I can hear the poor SP-1 crying, so it needs to be replaced.

I forgot I also have a RPM 2.65 conversion which still needs internals.

Funny, I bought (and buy) many a roller for spare parts to "save" my top shelf used parts. Then the spare parts turn out to be pretty darn nice so I am forced to find another roller

These are all older parts swapped out from turning rollers into shelfers. I picked out the worst of the bunch and built this. The only new part I used was the front body brace as a black one just looked wrong and I didn't feel like waiting ages for one to arrive. They also seem plentiful and cheap enough on ebay.

I couldn't decide to build a T2 or RC10T, but something about an old square white truck struck me, plus the SP-1 only fits the older chassis. The truck turned out pretty good I think and has the right "aged" look to it.

I'd like to find a pair of white rear arms for it. Black motor plate and T3 slipper are on the way, I probably have an RC10 slipper but rather save them for another project.

Well, I broke the poor truck in a way I've never done before. I just put a stealth trans in it and took it for a bit of a spin. The track is carpet with a full throttle berm and 2/3 of the way around on boost and turbo the rear arm mount broke. I think it happened in a bit of a dip when it was loaded most. The rear inside hole broke causing the CVD bone to jump out, pierce the gear cover and chew up the spur gear. Amongst the chaos it also broke one of my front shock rod ends and bent two front turnbuckles.

Luckily some parts arrived the next day, so now it's back together. I converted the top shaft back to run the original style slipper and white gear. I also replaced the motor plate with a black one and it looks half decent.

Not much in the way of modernish rubber fits the 3 piece rims and It's more the "look" I'm after instead of utmost performance, so tire selection is limited.

I also think the long 10T bellcranks don't do the truck any good so I may run the shorter T2 bellcranks.

Have you found a way to keep the tires on with the three piece wheels?

I don't want to glue them, but that may be the only option. Under 3s lipo and a 17.5 brushless I will eventually sling the tire off of the wheel!

Also, what battery is that? I had to cut up a battery box to fit the lipos I got. Rookie mistake, I guess

I'm not running huge power so keeping tires on the rims isn't too bad, although the super sticky tires would still pull out. I'm trying to find a tire that looks period but also offers decent grip.

The lipo is standard sized, it fit in the bulkhead but was too tight for my liking so I cut the bottom out like the re-re. I also drilled the chassis to relocate the battery cup but you can cut the front of the cup out if you don't want to drill the chassis.

Hmmm. Ok, well those modifications sound familiar! The main thing I messed up on was gettinga battery with the leads on the end of it(and not on top)

You probably can't tell but I've replaced a few of the white components with better ones. Being it was built as a runner it got bottom of the barrel parts incase I broke it that I wouldn't be upset. I didn't like the 10T bellcrank set up and didn't want to change it. This is only one of two cars I own that have re-re parts aside from the actual re-release. The only re-re parts are shock clamps, battery cup, gear cover, chassis, motor plate and a body.

I'm trying to finish off my collection and wind down on projects so I'm using up all my spare parts to put existing cars on the shelf.

This little 10T came out quite tidy and I hope to replace a few more parts in a couple of weeks.
