Okay, so probably jumping the gun with this thread.. but I feel compelled to post up a pic of some parts due to my overwhelming excitement. I'm sure some of you will recognize a few of these widgets... and then remember I posted this in the truck forum.....
I will update this thread (and title) very very very soon... waiting on one more BIG piece....
Okay, got my chassis today from Seabass. Want to thank Niki and Seabass a bunch for working with me on getting this thing cut out. Hopefully get it 95% assembled this weekend. Missing a few little parts and pieces.. but should be there pretty darn quick. Yes, it's going to be a runner -
Looking forward to seeing it. Its cool to see a member from Bradentucky . I was born n raised in btown and work here too. I live in Sarasota but Btown is my true home.
Didn't get all that much done tonight as the girlfriend needs attention apparently. BTW, I'm using new parts everywhere I possibly can (Thunder Tiger in a few spots - like the front bumper/skid)
Chassis with shapeway parts bolted up....
B44 saddle's fit and batteries in. Front suspension coming back together with T4.2 big bores.
Bit more done tonight. Lots of making sure stuff simply fits. The donor vehicle was my old J82 runner.. so more than a few of the truck parts were swapped out for buggy parts. Some fasteners will be replaced with the correct stuff as I dig through boxes and find the correct ones. I know I have some MIP CVD's for it somewhere.. as well as the parts for the T4 axle conversion - more stuff I need to find. I know I have some fancy blue front axles for it as well as a blue aluminum Trinity transmission brace (haven't seen it in years though... ugh).
I definitely need to work on a better front shock (upper) spacer to get them off the tower a bit. I cobbled some junk together just to make it fit.. but I'm throwing in the towel for tonight.
I'm having a hard time assembling this thing with parts that I know I'm going to simply remove in the next week or so once I find the correct ones. Regardless.. I'm going to try and push through the rest of the assembly today (dog bones and all!!!) and work out the little details later after I do one more good search for parts. Been a busy weekend.. was hoping to have it done yesterday!!
Busy week at work, but I'm almost ready for electronics. I found my CVD's and blue front axles.. and they are in. Dog ate one of my battery straps, so I'm waiting for a new one to show up. Still looking for my T3 rear turnbuckles.. the J82 uses B3's with those funky ball cup ends to clear the offset on the buggy tires. Other than that.. test fitting the body and getting ready to glue the tires
The donor for this build was my J82. (http://www.jconcepts.net/index.php?/jconcepts/press_details/2607). Yes, a J82 is intended for a T4... but I made it work on a T3. Anywhoo - long story short, they basically make a bigger buggy out of a stadium truck. To deal with the offset on the rear J82 wheels, the rear turnbuckle needs to have that odd end on them and B3 turnbuckles instead of the longer stadium truck turnbuckles.
I'm using the saddles because... well... because I have a decent number of them, and because it opens up the rear bulkhead area for easier ESC mounting. I like to think it'll help with weight distribution a little.. but only time will tell. I know Niki has run his buggy with saddles.. he should have more feedback?
Okay, mechanically, the truck is complete. I have all the right hardware in all of the right places and it's fully together. Found my T3 rear turnbuckles and went through the trouble of putting RPM long ball ends on the whole truck (fingers hurt now). For anyone actually paying attention to the pictures - I did end up having to run the shocks on the front of the rear shock tower instead of the rear of it (stock). The 12mm big bores were hitting the rear turnbuckle when in the rear position and no amount of reasonable spacing on the tower.. nor tinkering with the bolt/mount setup itself would help. Only problem there is.. I'll have to put more holes in that pretty body to move it forward a tiny bit to clear the shocks. I'm going to start on electronics tonight/tomorrow. Keep ya'll posted.
