On Friday a shapeways package came with my Toykid Beach Buggy kit. Overall the pieces are very nice. The body will need some smoothing before painting it. The rest of the parts look like they are ready for primer and paint. Gonna have to get busy on this project.

This kit came on one of my busiest weekends. This weekend is the wedding for my girlfriends cousins. Between rehearsal dinner, wedding and hosting out-of-town relatives I didn't have much time to do anything on the kit. So Saturday morning I woke up early so I could steal away to the garage and start on it.
I guess the body is so big that Shapeways has no way to polish it so it comes kind of rough. I sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper then moved to 600 grit.

I thought I had it pretty well smooth and started to lay the primer down. All that did was this make all the imperfections come to light

I'm using Tamiya's fine line primer that's really thin. It's not filling in much. So I bought some thicker more gap filling primer which would effectively be like applying a skimcoat on the body.
Sunday I shot a few coats to build up to a nice thick coat of grey primer. It looks like it will fill in the rough surface. I'll need to sand this back down till the white shows.

I had to let the primer cure overnight before I put any sand paper to it. Today I wet sanded it with 600 grit and got it down to a pretty smooth finish. Now it's drying out in the sun and I'll shoot another coat of primer.
