Team Associated RC10 graphite worlds car!

Post by Daddeo »

Well maybe, technically, second "Holy Grail" for me in the RC hobby. The Tamiya Avante was my original ;).

Anyhow, for a long time I have wanted a graphite RC10 of some sort. I've always liked the look of the Team car with graphite chassis and how lovely it looked with the "AE" logo CNC'ed into the chassis. I have looked high and low for on of these "elusive" cars and each time I thought I had found one it seemed to always turn out to be a POS! On ebay I scanned all the new listings of RC stuff and performed searches specifically for it on just about a daily basis. Now rewind back to the 22nd of January and I see something listed that catches my eye! Yes, a graphite RC10 team car :D ! Before I give anymore details here's a few pictures to show what I got:

It's not new but in very, very good shape. Dirty but not real bad and should clean up really nice. It did not come with original rear tires or rims but I have some NIP ;). Speaking of tires, are these the original front tires that should have come with this particular model?

It has a few spots with servo tape stuck to it but it's coming off really easy:

Someone decided to use their own type of screw to secure the gear cover
Image

It came with a JR NES-510 servo for steering, don't know much about it though. It also doesn't have holes for the servo mounts :? :

The CVD's are in new condition with no slop what-so-ever:

I received it with some old HPI 5 spoke rims in the rear:

The antenna mount is one I have never seen before.

It came with the original box, manual, and few other pieces of paperwork. No body though :( but I do have a Viper I was planning on putting on it. To bad I can't find a Protech 2 but I think if I paint the Viper in the Box art scheme it should look pretty good, I think. I plan on doing a restoration of some sort to it and I have a few hop-up goodies I would to put on it as well :D. If you have any info about this car I would be more than happy to hear it. Enjoy ;)!

Thanks! I wasn't sure about the chassis when I received since it didn't look like the regular graphite chassis. It is a Associated chassis, right? I still think I paid to much but oh well, I got it now.

Here's a link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120214093267&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=002

i'd take it off your hands for what you paid for it if you don't really want it.

and to answer your question, yes it's an associated chassis.

Ok, I'll quit "pulling your chain" now ;). I know this is a "Diamond in the rough"!!! I just read up on it in that thread and it seems that this car was linked to by Asso_Man here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=700

I still feel I paid to much though.....

Rc Chick- Thanks, I couldn't hit the "BIN" button fast enough .

Nice one Daddeo. The antenna mount is from the RC12LW or RC12LS. Are you gonna drill holes for the steering servo?

Thanks!

No drills, saws, or sanders will come close to this chassis :D!

i think the price was cheap for this, great buy.. the graphite chassis's with the logo engraved in "good" shape sell for $70+, between all the parts on here and the rarity of that chassis, its a great buy congrats. cant wait to see it cleaned up

Thanks, I won't be able to start work on this one until the weekend. From the way it looks it should clean up real good :D.

I don't think it was ran more than a couple times due to the way it looks and the tires haven't been glued to the rims. It looks to have never been run in/on dirt, grass, clay, or rocks. The trash on it looks like road dirt to me so it should come off pretty easy. It's kind of funny to think that when I hit the BIN button I thought to myself "oh crap, it's probably going to be trashed on the bottom" but much to my surprise it wasn't. Before getting it I seriously pondered the notion of "flipping" it but not now! This will go on the shelf next to my mint 6016 RC10 after it's been cleaned/restored :D.

That's amazing dude, when I first linked this car on the froum, it was like months ago and I was intending to win the auction, but then I was away from any computer when it ended up... I pretty sure you got exactly the same car as the one I reffered to in my thread... so someone (else than me) won it, and relisted it a few months later without changing any detail  I already knew it would be in very good shape from the auction pics, but now I'm stoked dude, super nice find... By the way, I am also pretty sure this car originally came with a Viper body, the Protech II only came with the orginal Graphite chassis... If I were you, I would leave it as stock as possible, this is a TRUE testimony of an old legend on this forum  Keep us posted

Asso_Man - Very interesting! I'm liking this car more and more now knowing it has some history around here :D. It will be kept stock for the most part but I would like to mount up the few hop-up's I have to see how it would look.

Dr. Robotnik - Thank you sir! :D

Nice, nice, nice. If there was a top eBay score award, it'd be yours! Can't wait to see it all cleaned up. :D
