That's where I stole the idea. I'm kicking around the idea of building a rail dragster from brass tubing later on. Soldering brass together with a torch is really enjoyable.
Got the 1/18 shocks in today but they just aren't going to cut it. The fronts don't have enough travel and even after adding 40wt shock fluid they end up being too weak. I doubt they would even support the weight of the car with the battery installed. It was worth a try though and the fronts will make perfect replacements for the side dampers on my LTO pan car. I just ordered a set of new Associated TC3 shocks with all the upgrades. This way I'll have a proven set of shocks that can be properly tuned with springs and fluid. I've also decided to cut a standard front tower for it as well. I'll probably cut one that's offset though. Looking at material for the body now and will place an order shortly. I'll be making some more parts for the car this weekend so more progress shots are coming.
The shocks on the car in the photo below kind of reminds me of Kyosho Scorpion/Tomahawk shocks. They've always had a more scale appearance (size-wise), IMO. They may be a bit hard to find, and scr8p will never forgive you for using them, but they might be an option as well.
There are a couple of photos of them in this thread. And I'm not sure who made them, but that set of shocks on shodog's Scorpion are pretty sweet. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=242
I just thought about something. I bought some springs as a replacement for some grasshopper springs and they ended up a bit heavy. What are the diameter of those rc18 shocks? I have a bunch of them(like a pack of 10 or something) and I can just send you some. They might be too long, but you can trim them to length if they are a reasonable diameter for the shocks.

Without a doubt the springs. The springs it came with are too tightly coiled and weak. Here is the 1/18 front shock against my RC10L center shock. The 10L shock has the kind of coil spacing and strength I need. Just not sure who made that shock as it's not the same as the one most 10L's came with. Bolink?

Those do look good but I'm setup to run short shocks on the rear. I'll figure something out I'm sure.

I'll check out the diameter when I go out to the garage later today. I did order a set of CRC pan car springs though so I might have it solved. I'll hit you up if the CRC springs don't work out.
Tower shows Diameter: .40" (10.35mm) inside for stock springs.
Note these deltas and micros don't have much travel!
Those look great actually. I'm hoping the new springs will do it for me though. I used the wrong terminology on the travel. I meant the coils were so weak they were bottoming out before the shock actually did. The springs have too many coils and bunched up before the shock could really do anything. Hopefully I can get the car up on it's wheels soon and then I can work on my front tower.
