What is the last RC10 model made in USA?
What is the last RC10 model made in USA?
I'm just now getting back into R/C after close to a 30 year hiatus. First car was an RC12E, which I got when I was 12 in 1980. Had an early goldpan RC10 - must have been '84, since I quit RC when I was 16 or 17 in favor of skateboarding and drumming - not sure what happened to it - probably sold at a garage sale for $10...
Grew up in San Jose and used to go race (novice) at the local hobby shop (D&J, or maybe one other one in Campbell, can't remember the name...) and as luck would have it, Joel Johnson lived about a mile away from me and I remember seeing him race in those early days. We're the same age, and he went to a rival high school. I was blown away when I saw the history of his success in his R/C career. I remember him being a great driver as a kid - when we were 13 or 14.
I'm now addicted again, and have bought 7 early RC10's (goldpans and teams) on ebay the past two weeks. I'm getting my 10 year old son into the hobby now, and we're going to completely disassemble and rebuild them together.
So, that being said, I'd like to know what the last model of the RC10 Associated manufactured in the USA?
Thanks!

Re: What is the last RC10 model made in USA?
If your including the DS I think it was the last rc10 kit using the original chassis sold in the US, not sure of the plastic cars- I don't follow them. The GT and T2 were US built also weren't they?
Your question is very broad. What RC10 line are you asking about? Are you including the 10L's and GT's etc?

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

If you're talking buggy, it'd be the aforementioned gold & black championship edition.
Otherwise, the DS and the black tub GT, last made in 1999 and 1998 respectively

Off road RC10's... Is the RC10 B2 and everything thereafter made overseas?

So was the B3 and I'm sure the early first gen B4 was as well!

I'm pretty sure my B3 Sport box said "Made In America" on it.

I also think it was the early RC10B4s and T4's. Those were the kits with the outdoor action shots on the box. The reason I think that was around the time of the Thunder Tiger merger, that's when all the kit boxes changed to the current design with the black background.

My Factory Team T4 was made in the USA. It states this on the box also.
It was one of the very early kits though...

Re: What is the last RC10 model made in USA?
I guess it depends on the definition of "Made in the USA"
Long before the B4/T4 was produced Thunder Tiger were moulding plastic parts, supplying all the engines, and they also built all of the RTRs for Associated, including the B4 RTR released at the same time as the B4. One reason Thunder Tiger bought Associated was to keep Associated going as at the time supplying cars to Associated accounted for half of Thunder Tigers business.
