"RACEY" Grasshoppers?

Post by twisted »

I know those two words ,race and grasshopper dont go together but i remember seeing some very hopped up grasshoppers back in the day.I cant find anything like that on the web but i thought it would be something cool to do to my shelf queen.

Anyone know of pics or parts of such cars?

My first car was a Hornet, which of course is a Grasshopper chassis. There is nothing to be done with it really. The suspension towers are moulded into the chassis, so that stops fitting decent dampers and altering the ride height. The solid beam rear end is also useless. By the time these basics are overcome you won't have any Grashopper left! Better by far to ditch it and by a Mardave Meteor for similar money back then. The only purpose of these Tamiya kits is to get kids into the sport. Having said that, I still have fond memories of those very early days discovering rc :)

My first hobby-grade RC was the Frog, and no matter what I did to hop it up, it still ran & handled like crap. I was able to do more to mod a Marui Galaxy to run better than that Frog.

I LOVE that photo of the "RCCA Project Car"! That's more or less where my original Grasshopper ended up: CRP front shocks, You-G rear shocks and tires, Parma Stinger body, and Pro-Line wheels (mine were chrome, not gold). It had a Le Mans 240ST motor in it and a Parma wiper-style speed control (after I melted the orignal). And no, none of it made a lick of difference to the handling. It was really good at wearing out rear tires zipping up and down the street at ludicrous speed (it's gone plaid!), but ask it to turn or jump, and it would politely decline and roll over onto its back for a belly rub. Memories...

My first grade hobby kit was a Grasshopper, though it did not have of an option to tune it, it is indeed a fun car to drive. Nothing more. sad to say I sold it to a friend for me to fund another kit. being 9 and no sponsor is very hard at that time. But I thank my dad for giving me one, after long cryings my drama paid off. hahaha

HI!... No that's not mine. That guy is from Japan. He builds some crazy RC cars. Check out his gallery I posted. He's got a awesome Hotshot he modded and a half Hornet half Dark Impact he grafted together.

That Grasshopper project is very cool. But of course the only thing left from the original is the cosmetics. That is the price you pay for making them actually handle! Crazy amount of work but I respect the insanity

One of these days I'd like to make a street grasshopper with the same suspension as the Snowhopper. Maybe get the front shocks to lay down a little bit more.
