Steve's RC10-T $30 Bucket Refurb

Post by huminski »

My usual swap meet / flea market / craigslist guy showed up at work the other day with this thing. Offered it to me for $30 which means he probably got it for $15 or $20. Looked it over and saw some potential, so I grabbed it.

Looked complete. Dirty as hell, rusted, god knows what caked up on it in places, but complete which as we all know is the most important thing.

Here it is when I got it home and threw it on the bench.

Cleaned up the chassis and gave it the plasti-dipped spray. I like this for look of it, however I don't think it will hold up great as a runner. I have a RC10-DS that I have also sprayed with the dip.

Got the front end done tonight. The shocks are smooth as silk and hold their oil, so I am not opening them up.

More to come. The difference is already remarkable, I would say.........

I'm interested to see if your electronics are going to stay put with the Plasti Dip.

Agreed, anything not bolted down will likely easily pull off, taking the coating with it. I am either going to shelf this one, or sell it, and I plan on using the original MSC for the sake of accuracy, so the only electronic item that will need to be taped should be the receiver, which is relatively lightweight.

The look and feel is pretty killer though, so I will take the good with the bad. :)

Those are T/T2/GT arms, same for all models, late model/last version for the 10T. They may or may not be original to that truck..

I'd say you got a he'll off a deal for $30! 8)

Update, almost all back together. Working on trying to refurb the tires. Also have to clean up all the electronics and reinstall.

So far so good.

I checked my other 10T, which I assume is older, and the arms are different, the front shocks sit in the arm itself instead of mounting on the tab like these do. Thought they looked different. My manual has the pocket style arms like my older 10-T.

Anyway, she's done. Going to leave the electronics out and shelf as a roller. Maybe put newer vintage electrics in it later sometime. Also might just sell this one, not sure yet.

Here u can see the difference in the arms, both front and rear. The fronts on the newer 10T have tabs where the shocks attach, where the ones on the older truck have pockets that the shock mounts in.

Rears are quite different also.

Actually, going by the manual, the rc10t doesn't use the standard servo standoffs and is mounted with servo tape to the other side of the chassis then a buggy ;)

Those are the t2 a-arms. Associated put them in the 10t kits right before the t2 was released. Before that, they were making the black composite arms that were the same as the white ones.

Not a bad deal for $30! I've had a few like that. All they need is a little elbow grease and they come out fantastic! I think it speaks to the durability and craftsmanship of the old associated vehicles, but I might just be biased lol.
