Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
I have some long hinge pins and tried it, the fit is not great
the shape of the arms is in the way. Tomorrow we shall tweak some more and get those shocks at a happy angle. If that don't work, I'm making bellcranks and we will cantilever the girl

Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
Oh crap!
I totally forgot about work! They probably wonder where I've been
Actually I just started a week of vacation so hopefully I will be getting some more projects underway this week
. If I can make some room I may even start the T2 build I have been collecting for

Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
I didn't get a very early start today but did figure out some better shock mounts. Dropped the outer mounting point quite a bit and recut the front tower, angles are good, travel is good....I think I will move to the rear now

Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
Good idea because those shocks won't compress being as flat as they are. They'll just wave up and down with the control arms. You could also just use longer hinge pins with e-clips and retaining washers, and mount the shock ball ends onto the pins with those little alloy balls inside the ball ends, like how the inner camber links are mounted. It wouldn't be ideal but better than too flat.1300GT wrote:Cool projects sir! On the oval chassis is it possible to mount the bottom of the shocks to the outer hinge pins in the arms using 3mm screws that aren't completely threaded?
EDIT: Just saw the comment about the shocks binding against the arms, perhaps spacers with 3mm inside holes a couple millimeters thick might push the shock bottoms forward and help clear the arms?

Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
That would have been next step but if it's out there too far it will hit the wheel at full lock.
This has been a good solution, I have never been a fan of laying a shock down but at ride height it is almost fully extended and compressed it is at full compression so it's using all it's travel now

Re: Ultima Trio- oval, buggy, and Truck projects
Dirt oval truck is almost ready for radio gear!
In my junk I found a new Parma outlaw s10 body which is growing on me. It will need some carving still.

Had to use associated caster wedges as I couldn't pull off my idea of using toilet shims.

Here is the trio...plus one. I had enough parts to start a fourth
a runner!

HAH. Way to make people hate you.gomachv wrote:In my junk I found a new Parma outlaw s10 body...

I really liked Parma's old DO bodies. They looked they were sub-contracted out to Ira Dahm. One or two of them even made for good buggy bodies.

That's a pretty cool truck body, I wonder how you decide to paint it...should look great when finished!

It will be a "realistic" oval scheme...basic colors and some big bright racing numbers. And rivets....lots of rivets
