Re: Ultima project started: with no particular direction in

If I started with a mid it would have been A) too easy lol and B) too tempting to keep it 4wd.
I would like to find a properly priced mid at some point and do a radical offset chassis like the old RCH. The price is key tho, I refuse to overpay

Couple of questions. First, what is a pin router? CNC? 2nd, What do you consider a good price on say, a 90% complete mid in used, but usable condition? By 90% I mean the body is probably junk, possibly worn gears, worn tires, but the mechanics all re usable.

Curious because I also avoid high priced stuff, but wondering if my limit is similar to others.

By the way, these builds are just fantastic! Im feeling pretty amateur with my simple resto mods.

I'll take a stab at that one. If it were me, and probably like Jeff, I'm as low-budget as it comes when buying stuff, as I just don't have much budget for RC stuff--I'd consider up to $100 a worthy deal for a good Optima (any series) roller. I know people might pay way more, but I just can't justify it if it's gonna cost me $200 more in overpriced parts sold by sellers taking full advantage of the "vintage market" to complete the car. Anything under $100 that would include some nice parts like a set of Kyosho Golds or decent electrics would be gravy.

I´m not sure CNC is the right term to use when it comes to Jeff´s routing service - I´d say he´s more an anolog kind of guy. Not saying that he isn´t hitech, he´s probably one of the best when it comes to programming the VHS for recording a certain channel at a certain time.

Dennis isn't far off (although he is far out there  ). If a CNC is computer controlled, mine is analog. It's basically a router with a stationary pin held above so you can trace templates. I double side tape the old part to the new material and router away!

Thread on it is here:

Finally had time to finish up the truck! Rolling a 1991 Novak M5, 91 narrow band receiver, and a S148 and powered by a Slot machine. Just waiting on the TBG body and gotta round up some heatsinks for the Novak 8)

I need to search for some kyosho replica stickers. Maybe do a "turbo outlaw ultima" type thing.

Who sells good repro kyosho stickers?

TBG has the machine, but they are not up and running. At least it won't ruin the original with stickers tho.

I'm thinking it was Marwan that had the nice stickers? I'll have to check into it

Been trying to figure out a nice shock tower for the front of the oval car. It needs to be shorter but the arms don't permit (easily) laying the shock down. I found a JG conversion on eBay and it uses the upper camber link screws. Hmmm. So, with remounting the shocks and playing a bit, it seems the slingshot tower fits pretty close. I will cut a second one and optimize it a bit, but here is the prelimiary mock up. I'm not happy with the shock angles right now, but the tower is mounted too high. I may spread the tower a bit also.

Cool projects sir! On the oval chassis is it possible to mount the bottom of the shocks to the outer hinge pins in the arms using 3mm screws that aren't completely threaded?
Chris.
