What do I have here, besides the obvious?

Post by Vintagemishal »

Ok, I think I have made a major score today on Craigslist. I got this along with several other cars and a ton of parts. So, what I want to know is: What do I have here? I know that it is an RC10 with a MIP 4wd conversion, but the front end parts do not look factory to me, but this is my first MIP 4wd, so I am unsure. The pan appears to be a Worlds pan that has been cut down and anodized? Or is this some prototype that MIP did? Or is this someone's homemade job? Any info is much appreciated. Also I was wondering if anyone knows or knew Thomas Hightower? I believe the lot I bought today once belonged to him. From what I can tell, It appears that he raced at the 1996 Worlds. Thanks for any help and on with the pictures!

Front arms are stock but cut down
Knuckles and carriers are not mip, looks like homemade as the mip ones weren't all that durable
Chassis looks like a worlds but not sure why someone would have converted a car that late
Edit- chassis has different cutout under battery, likely earlier than worlds. What stamp is it? (Lol)
Great score, I must have been sleeping!

Home made front end parts for sure, but this is the MIP 4-10 legend missing some parts like the front belt guide and transmission parts for the stealth, and of course the stock MIP c-hubs and steering knuckles.

Still a great find!!

I have not gone through all of the parts I got yet, so I am hoping to have the transmission parts in there somewhere! I cannot see the stamp on the pan, but part of the rear has been cut away. Well, it was a good score as I got a Yokomo YZ10, 2 RC10B3's, a Losi XX, a Losi Rally Weapon, and a RC10 DS. I am happy.

No MIP gearbox in with the parts. Might be searching for some parts to put this one back together.

Very cool find. Those front knuckles look beefy. It's a shame what they did to that worlds chassis.

Thanks Shodog. Does anyone have a picture of what the rear gearbox/drive gear looks like so I can see if it is in with all of my parts? Thanks for the help.

The 4-10 Legend used the stealth transmission. There were parts in the conversion to fit on the stealth.

That is a sweet haul.

DS, Rally Weapon and the other Losi's is insane.

Things seem more scarce here in Jersey, I'm lucky to find anything interesting and/or reasonable.

And my definitions of both are quite flexible.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

The DS is missing one wheel, but has had very little use. The Rally Weapon looks unused.

Wheel schmeel ;)

Did you check the Rally Weapon's belts yet? Used or not, they like self destruct.

I have not had time to really look at it. There are no scratches on the chassis and the tires look brand new.
