No spacer with the flanged bearings

The chassis is a Duratrax Pro Xl, the one I'm not sure about is the one on the outlaw truck.

The original called for that spacer, one of my trannies had it- see pic. I remembered them being a white color but this one was black. The aftermarket bearing sets use a 4x8fl bearing on each side and loose the washer that goes on the inside.

The spacer is exactly the same dimension as a 4x8 bearing, so I personally would substitute it with another bearing

Thanks for the tip, I didn't even think of flanged bearings or a third bearing
Till now I've been tinkering with nothing but Optima Mids but lately I've been playing with Ultimas and Lazers too

I could never understand the logic in using a washer to control the thrust on that counter gear. Flanged bearings make more sense to me, but the design kept going- ultima II, Outrage.....all with the same setup.

The bearing set I used for this build was a NMB kit and it had the flanged with it

Yes, all the G10 are parts I have copied with my pin router
The rear shock tower on the oval car, for example, is a copy of the pro lower tower and a original ultima top. Just blended together. The chassis is a aftermarket 10L blended with a ultima pro chassis

Have you tried a left/right servo setup on the flat chassis or the buggy instead of the stock front/back movement?

I have the outrage system from Phin but it isn't really era correct. I still may do something similar but trying to keep the age correct. I have a plan, just not sure if it will pan out.

Made some g10 side plates for the trackmaster, and built a set of braces for the rear tower. I was never a fan of how trackmaster did not tie into the bulkhead in their systems.

Clearanced a bit, trimmed a hole in the chassis for the spur clearance, and played with steering. Can't run side to side. It gets in the way of the battery.

I don't know about "great" but it does illustrate how much harder it is to mid-motor a non Associated car. They really thought out their design well

Well, it's probably easier if you start with an Optima Mid rear section. But of course, half the fun and half the battle is in the challenge of the redesign.
