Ok, you winlosiXXXman wrote:DIRT OVAL for sure mach5. There are tons of DO RC10 builds on here, but I don't recall seeing any GOOD purpose built DO Ultimas on the board.

Technically this could go dirt oval or onroad but its a hybrid between a 10L and an Ultima with some rounded corners

It will be mid motor with all the holes there for rear but I am not going to countersink em unless I need em. I can use 10L nurf wings and body posts for the rear, I was going to set it up for the 10L front bumper but the chassis looked too weak that way. It will get a custom Kydex bumper. Shock towers will be custom, still looking for the bolink lowering kit

Wait till ya see how I add caster

Just one fish (oval) chassis, the other will be a duratrax pro xl as a truck, and the rest will be the used carbon chassis likely as buggies. Until I come up with a better plan.

Great thread.
What a score with all those Ultima parts. Did you get any body sets or cages in the lot?
Cheers

Re: Ultima project started: with no particular direction in
Quick mock up to get the rear suspension to fit. The arm mount and bulkhead give it toe and anti squat, so just reversing it won't work. I cut a bulkhead down for the front mount, and used the cut portion to make the new bulkhead. I drilled out the rear arm mount and used long screws. It's quite solid but will probably still get braced as the link between the bulkhead and trans goes away with the trackmaster. I was surprised to see the motor still fits with the new front arm mount as its quite a bit taller for the the anti squat.
The front rake is flat right now, still haven't got my pieces to add 10 or so degrees.

This is the one and only body that came with the lot.

That's coming along nicely. This will be a fun project to follow, I'm intrigued where you're headed with this, and what your mods are going to be.

It's looking great mach5. Awesome work on making the mid-mods. You cut the bulkhead very cleanly for getting the toe and anti-squat corrected. +2 on the Optima Pro body, that's what I put on my Ultima and it suits well.

Re: Ultima project started: with no particular direction in
Thanks for the info on the body, I like it!
As far as the modifying of the rear mounts, I really wanted to install the rear style on both ends to give it 0 rear toe but the dimensions of the pieces are different and I would have had to grind a lot. I think I will look for another rear bulkhead and cut it a little cleaner (this one was already modded so I didn't mind cutting it) to cap over the rear mount. Alternately I may use the Robinson tracker kit I have to give it 0 toe. Still a work in progress, more g10 is arriving today so shock towers are up next. Need to round up more kyosho golds

Thanks Bo, i have! That's where I got the ideas about swapping around the mounts, even tho yours was custom.
Re: Ultima project started: with no particular direction in
Thank You Sir. The easy way to go is using Mid Optima Gearbox if you have one. That works well if I didn't screw up how to do the setup in 2013 Tekin Vintage Offroad Nationals I was not good at all until I got it right in the C final 4 qualification heat in the bin UGH.

Well if you ever give up on mid motor ultima you will need to sell me that awesome rear mount setup. It is very nicely done!
