I see the classic parts just showed up on eBay. I emailed the seller to ask them if they actually had them in stock. Haven't heard back yet.

I don't think he is allowed to post the auction if he doesn't actually have the items on hand. I know there was a big issue with people selling new video game consoles before they were released, assuming they would be able to get them on the first day, but then screwing the buyers when they couldn't.

I just heard back and they said they do have them in stock! 8) The selection is limited, though.

Some sellers do list things they don't have in stock. I have had that happen to me a few times.

The email just came through
Dear Tower Hobbies Customer,

Your Tower Hobbies account demonstrated a back order quantity of more than 2 of the Associated RC 10 Classic Kits; ASCD6001 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDPNE&P=ML

Due to overwhelming demand we will be limiting the quantity to no more than 2 per customer. We have already adjusted your back order quantity to reflect just 2. We regret any disappointment this may cause.

As always, we thank you for your business.

Interesting - currently i can pre-order from at least 3 UK retailers with allocation available.

How are they going to stop buying kits at different retailers ?

That's not how it works; they limit you to two kits per order, but they may or may not stop you from ordering multiple times with the same account. You can always order from different places.

I still think this will indeed be a limited edition kit as they have insisted. For me, if you really want one, it's not worth taking the risk of hanging back to see if they are still available for the same price in 3 or 4 month's time.

AE has the parts available on their site as well (some). I ordered Monday morning, had them in hand Wednesday afternoon.

If Tower Hobbies have sold all the kits they have pre-ordered, they can't fulfil those extra orders by taking kits from CML Distributions order. Associated doesn't control how many kits are sold by individual retailers, if all the kits being made have been bought by various shops and distributors around the world then Tower Hobbies can't buy more to cover all their sales, so their only option is to limit the number of kits.

I tried to order a steering rack the other night from Tower and their system wanted me to order 2. When I emailed asking if this was an oversight, I was told that i had to order 2 because the cost of the parts was so low, they required 2 to be ordered. Didn't make sense to me. Won't be ordering it from them.

That's bizarre, I've never had Tower force a quantity on me.

I wonder if that was just a random reason they gave you for no other reason than that was what popped into their head.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.
