Flea market find, what would you do?

Post by shodog »

Came across the lot of cars at the flea market today

Image

A couple of traxxas wrecks and an incomplete JRX2. The seller wanted $20 for the JRX2 and I passed, would you had bought it?

On another note I fished an almost new set of Tamiya TLT wheels, a set of lightly used green RC10 buggy wheels and a new set of white fronts for $12

I think I would have offered him $40 for the whole lot. Throw some cheap electronics in the Traxxas cars, turn them around on Craigslist (Traxxas crap always sells there), and use the proceeds to fund the restoration of the JRX.

I would have had a go at getting the whole lot cheap, as markbt73 says, and then used what I wanted and onsold the rest... but then, my ideas may be different to yours, Shodog. I certainly see $50 in value there, and with a bit of work, probably $100 or more - case in point, the wheels you bought for $12 were easily worth more than that (or you wouldn't have bought them), the truck in the front with the ESC and motor would get $30 - $50+ (if the gear worked and the wheels could be matched), the Losi would go to anyone just as parts for a good enough amount.... maybe not the best if you wanted to restore them all, but to keep / flip as you like, why not.

Then again, I'd take just about any RC car stuff at a garage sale / swap meet / flea market these days.... been more than a year since I've seen ANYTHING worthwhile..... :x

took the whole shebang and set it in with all the other boxes of wrecks I've got sitting around...

Make sure not to ever work on any of them because I just didn't know where to start is the next step...

give in to temptation and pull some of it out and look at it til it gets in the way and put it where I can't find it again when I want to...

pick up some parts for it to do whatever and add them to the pile to never find that final piece I need to finish it...

buy a new rtr or kit so I got something to run next time I go....but making sure I got the whole lot of it to begin with is the first move. I guess I'm stuck in one of those vicious cycles like this. Got my few runners and everytime someone says "hey, we should all get a (insert whatever in here) and run them all together" I usually fall for that also.

I believe though if you had the cash I think you should do that person a favor and take it off their hands so they can make ends meet 8)

Ditto. The red antenna holder, battery box, front and rear bulkheads & towers, LRM, and TRC rear foams would have been an added bonus.

Looks like a Traxxas Bandit chassis to me..... judging by the gearbox.

I once found a box of tyco/nikko garbage at a garage sale. I picked through it and found a mint HiLux chassis and under that was some sort of buggy that I didn't recognize, but knew it was something worthwhile. I paid $25 for the lot. Turns out the unknown buggy was a Tamiya Fox that you guys valued at $40, the HiLux was the real jewel. It seemed like they were just grabbing boxes out of the garage and trying to sell what they could. I went back the next day hoping they'd found the body for the HiLux, instead, he found the radio and just handed it to me.
