2013 Road America Grand Am/ALMS weekend

I didn't get around to posting these last week after the race, but since there are lots of full scale racing gearheads on here, I figured I'd share. My son and I went to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI for the 3rd straight year for the ALMS race and this year there was the extra bonus that Grand Am was part of it all. I continue to love going to this race and this track for several factors including the open pit/paddock for spectators, affordable ticket price, great track viewing points and access, and excellent race series with a mix of production based cars and prototypes. Kids 12 and under are free and the teams are all fantastic about giving extra accommodations for kids, especially die-hards like my son wearing his Ferrari gear that Dad bought him.

He likes to root for the red 458 Italia while I'm a BMW guy, so we have some good spirited jabs at each other. The Ferrari team was fantastic about allowing him behind the roped off area to get close to the car after a practice session, and their team photographer even took some shots of him and posted them to their website! If you ever go again...stop by Michael Shank racing (yaya its a ford team) he is probably one of the nicest guys in racing and he will probably take you and your son for a tour....now if you go to the 24hr race next year at Daytona he will infact take you for a tour ...

These were taken Thursday, 8/8/13 and I took over 1500 pics that day - most of which were pretty good.....

A week later at Kansas Speedway; not so much.....
