Old JRX2 racer, new to the forum
It started with an old Nikko that wasn't fast enough so the old man bought me a Kyosho Big Brute. We started racing the Big Brute in 1987, and when Losi came out with the JRX2 we bought the kit, dropped a B&R can motor in there and started slaying gold-pan RC10s in the buggy division.
I was 8 so the old man was the crew chief and I was the driver. People got pissed...I can remember several times when some of the older RC10 and Optima guys got upset and our car would get checked after almost every race. It was legal...even RC10s that bent the rules couldn't keep up.
So...I don't know what happened, but I got the itch to try and get the cars out again. Checked mom's garage, attic, anywhere they would have been and the only thing I came up with was a few can motors, a ton of spare parts, and a mangled Big Brute chassis...no electronics, servos, speed controls, etc. I can at least turn the Big Brute into a roller, but I really want to rebuild a JRX2 just like the one I had back in the day, but the only thing I really have is the body and wheels. It sucks! I also had a completed Losi GTX that's gone missing...I built the whole thing, never got it to start, and just went on to something else.
Where's my best bet to find an old JRX2 chassis? I want to find the electronics separately so I can build it with the same stuff I had (Novak SC, Futaba receiver, etc).
Garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets...do hobby stores hang onto used stuff? I know I can find what I'm looking for without paying $150+ for some of the rollers I've seen online.

Welcome to the board.
I think the most important thing to have from your original car are the wheels and body. All of the other parts can easily be replaced.

highwayracer

yeah, the key is to have patience. look up a bunch of losi cars and parts on ebay and keep an eye on them. I would bet you could probably piece together a nice car for around a hundred or so.

That's exactly what you should do. In the late 90's I wanted to put my jrx2 (proformance kit build) back together. Over the years, I replace every part and wound up with a totally different car (green one). Back then, I wasn't using ebay and boards like this one really weren't in existence.jwscab wrote:yeah, the key is to have patience. look up a bunch of losi cars and parts on ebay and keep an eye on them. The only think I kept was the body and 1 set of wheels...and I was able to eventually able to build the car back up to the original specs.

Right on...thanks for the input. If my mom could remember what the heck she did with all of it this'd be a totally different story, but it is what it is and I'm going to be scouring the interwebs lookin' for parts.
I actually found a 2nd set of wheels after I posted this, so I have white wheels, factory orange wheels, and 3 sets of tires (including the set that came with the car). I also realized that I have my stock shocks...we put aftermarket shocks on the car back in the day so I think I moved the stock Losi shocks over to my Big Brute. I'm going to take a break here in a bit and try and inventory everything I have so I can figure out exactly what I need...make a list and start crossing stuff off.
The body also has a couple cracks on the nose...less than 1/2in each but they're right by the body mounts. Any way those can be mended or held together? The body's one of the more important parts to me...solid black, and my old man hand-painted a safety net on the driver's side window, with my name underneath it in orange cursive.

Sorry...just looked at highwayracer's pic and the cracks are actually along cutout for the front shock tower.
Sweet lookin' JRX2 btw!

That's where all of the losi bodies cracked. That red body has cracks as well in the same area. If you have those original orange wheels, that HUGE...since they're very difficult to come by (at a decent price). Do you remember what kind of shocks you installed on your car?pmathews924 wrote:Sorry...just looked at highwayracer's pic and the cracks are actually along cutout for the front shock tower.

I don't, but I know we didn't go cheap...what were some of the better shocks back in the day?
You'll know better than I will, but I want to say maybe Losi made an upgraded shock that we put in the car? I really don't know...I was just the driver.

A couple have asked to see, so here's a pic of what I have that's JRX2...got some work to do for sure but I can't wait to put it on a track! If that box had something in it, and if that parts list was a manual, I definitely wouldn't be on my computer right now.
