Someone mentioned that the track will be outdoors and slightly looser with lower jumps compared to previous tracks to simulate the older tracks of yesteryear so I'm debating what tire to run in classic class. Will anyone be changing tire choice because of this or will most still run the same modern, "fuzzy" 2.2?
I'm also having trouble finding a 2.4ghz 2-channel stick transmitter/receiver to run so if anyone has any budget-minded recommendations I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Last year I ran J concepts green flipouts in both 2wd buggy and 2wd truck for rears. Worked well the entire weekend. Started out with ribbed tires on the front of each. Then swapped to Hot bodies foll slots in the front of the 2wd buggy after the track got more packed in. Needed more front steering in a buggy that had a little push to it.

I think everybody started out with an agressive tire at first but then gravitated to more of a mini pin style tire by the end of the weekend. Basically, any soft compound tire will work out for you with exception of the BK bar style tire, which is more of a hard clay tire.

You mentioned you were running classic class. Tire selection will depend on which car you decide to run in that class. What will you be running?

Stickboy would be the one to talk to about a stick type 2 channel radio...

Regarding the stick radio, I run a Sanwa Super Exzes with a Spektrum 2.4 GHz module. What kind of stick radio do you normally use? If you have a Sanwa Exzes that is anything earlier than the Exzes X (which has an integrated module), you should be able to get a Spektrum module for it. There is also the Futable 3VCS.

If you want something more on the budget side, there are not many options that I know of. It's either fully blinged out or an AM radio as far as most stick radios go. Sanwa did make something that was mid-range a few years back (I can't remember the model name, though), but it was discontinued.

google etronix and code, the code 151 is the budget 2.4 2 channel and the code 153 is the higher end 3 channel.
etronix and code are the same IIRC. only available from euopean sellers from what i recall.

Thanks. I've noticed that the JConcept tire series seems to be very popular here and I've checked them out. How do you think Proline compares? Not sure on the car yet, either a WildOne or Super Hotshot...leaning towards the SHS.

I think different people will give you different opinions on different tire brands. Pro-Line tires are also very good, but the inserts that come with them are not very good and do not last nearly as long as the JConcepts inserts. JC tires are also less expensive, so what you end up with is a solid tire with awesome inserts that last the life of the tire.

If you plan on spending a bit more money, though, you can run Pro-Line tires with closed cell inserts (either Pro-Line or AKA --> Mark swears by the AKA inserts. He swears a lot, though ;) ). I will say that in terms of moderate pin depth tires, Hole Shots last FOREVER.

You might also consider running Losi tires. They are even less expensive than JC tires and come with good (not great, but definitely good enough) inserts. I have been running Losi Red IFMAR Pins recently, and they feel just as good as Green JC Flipouts.

Thanks. I've always used the traditional/old Mhz systems so this will be my maiden voyage into the ghz world. I like the ghz systems because of the obvious advantages but I've really never had a problem with any Mhz system over the last 25+ years in terms of interference.

I've been doing a lot of research the last few days and have to agree that the budget-minded options out there for a stick-type 2.4 ghz transmitter seem to be extremely limited (i.e. essentially non-existent). It seems like the few ghz stick transmitters available are no less than pricey 3-channel systems and usually more like 4+ channels. However, there are plenty of inexpensive 2-channel, 2.4ghz, pistol grip-type transmitters from Spektrum, etc for under $100 so I might just have to bite the bullet and get use to a pistol grip over the summer.

J concepts Double Dees in green seem do do well just about everywhere. They would work well on the Super Shot and on the rear of the Wildone. I would stick with a non agressive ribbed tire for the front of the W.O.

At our local indoor track we use the Hot Bodies tires with AKA red closed cell inserts (Full slots and Beams, pink compound) and they out grip and out wear anything else out there.

Good info, thanks for the help. I ended up going with the Proline Hole Shots because I found them a little cheaper than the Jconcept Flip-Outs and like the fact that they'll last a long time but both seemed very similar. How long should I expect the Proline inserts to last before needing to replace them? Will I be able to make it through the race weekend? :lol:

Yep, I checked out the double dees as well which look cool but went with the Proline Hole shots. I'll just need to decide if I upgrade the inserts.

I run Hot Bodies Full-Slots/Beams in pink compound with AKA inserts on swept tracks, and I run Pro-Line Hole Shots 2.0 M4 compound with the standard foam Inserts from the Hot Bodies tires on hard packed surfaces that are not swept.
