Re: Intriguing ad in RC Car Action - RC10 re-release?
I'm not sure if someone has posted this info but from speaking with someone at Associated today at RCX it's going to be a super limited run. 2500 units was what I was told. I believe they are testing the re-re market out. $250 is my limit on price. Anything over that ill be fondly caressing the rc10 I currently own.
Also Means expect eBay flippers galore. Like a $200,000 box of unbeaten twinkles.
Someone mentioned the sand scorcher was supposed to limited too. But as far as I know they still make it. I wouldn't expect the same scenario though. AE is not Tamiya it's a subsidiary. Who knows though.
I did briefly see Eustace discussing the re-re at the AE booth. He sounded skeptical about it. As if he already ran the numbers on profitability.

I'm getting the same feeling about them being super limited, when I pre-ordered mine locally I was told they had to be ordered by this Wed to get any. I'm across the ocean but 3-4 days to order from being "official" is concerning. Which if true would make them extremely valuable.
I'm also pretty sure it's confirmed with oilite bushings.

I'm in the "wait and see" camp... First, I have plenty enough "real" RC10's already, either in shelf or pile-o-parts from, and second, I'd like to understand exactly what $200-ish with coupons will buy me...
Somehow I got super pumped up years ago by some tamiya re-re's, especially the entry-level ones like the Grasshopper or VLB, but although I should be jumping all the way up to the roof, I'm surprisingly calm about this one... weird

2,500 kits x $250 = $625,000
$625,000 - production costs - shipping - hobby store profit = Not enough profit
Just doesn't seem it would be worth the tooling costs/effort, unless they plan on manufacturing way more than 2,500 kits

Without trying to sound like a smart @$$, but what is it about this or infact any of the Tamiys re-re's that's not "real"? To me it's about nostalgia, and if this is a representation of what was around when I was totally infatuated with this hobby back in the 80's (even more so than I am nowLonestar wrote:I'm in the "wait and see" camp... So besides Tower and Stormer, who else is taking pre-orders? Didn't see anything on Amain

Hey Kym,
Good to see you here
If your ordering one in Aus get in quick as I was advised the cut off to order is Wednesday, but who knows if thats true or not. I can confirm that Australia will be receiving some.

Hey RJ, good to hear from you mate, yeah heard about that through my mate up North, already pre-ordered one Tower though, as I thought there would be no hope of us seeing any here in Aus, oh well, can't wait to get one, as you know, I've been keen for a little while now

For those that prefer to hold off to wait and see, hopefully we won't see your wanted thread in the Fall asking/begging one of us to sell you a kit for what we paid (or less).
Considering what most of us spend on mintage parts, is $250 minus a decent coupon code really too much?
If you have even a hint of wanting one of these, why wait?

You convinced me - I just pre-ordered mine from Towerflipwils11 wrote:For those that prefer to hold off to wait and see, hopefully we won't see your wanted thread in the Fall asking/begging one of us to sell you a kit for what we paid (or less).Considering what most of us spend on mintage parts, is $250 minus a decent coupon code really too much?

I figure at the very least, I will have a true shelf queen at 'some point'.

Re: Intriguing ad in RC Car Action - RC10 re-release?
As much as I love the idea of a re-re, i just can buy one w/o seeing it completely. For me I'm hoping it gets the parts market picking up again. I only had 1 rc10 a few months ago and now have 4. I already know I plan on getting rid of 1 b/c its just seems like too much already.
Id rather convert my older runners to run lipo full on and have them compete with the newer cars either way
