Re: Intriguing ad in RC Car Action - RC10 re-release?
Hi Wandy - welcome! To answer your question - building the RC10 compared to the only Tamiya I've build (Sand Scorcher) is quite different. What I mean is there is a lot more detail involved and the car overall is much more intricate. BUT - its not a pain in the butt either, just more involved in terms of the amount of stuff needed (like building the shocks for example). I would say that it is NOT hard (I did it as a kid) just time consuming.Wandy wrote:Hi guys, new member here. I'm a Tamiya nut first & foremost and am a regular on Tamiyaclub but have been wanting an original RC10 for a long time so this news has got me doing cartwheels. I can see me frequenting this place a lot over the coming weeks, months, years and am all of a sudden taking a lot more interest in AE products.![]()
Quick question though....what is the original like to build compared to the likes of a Tamiya? I have read comments in the past that it was a pain in the butt so do we think that they will update the build manual or include the original version of that too?
So many other questions but this will do for now.
EDIT - now that the re-re is confirmed, I wonder how the price of the old parts is going to be affected? Will we see a big drop in some of the NIB kits? I think that this is what happened with the Tamiya stuff generally. Can't wait to be able to go into my LHS and just buy stuff off the shelf again!

The whole car in that picture is a CE, not just the gearbox. If that's supposed to be the actual prototype it isn't what we were told it was going to be.bully wrote:I blew up tht pic an it appears to have screw on spur so stealth CE

Welcome Wandy, you will find a lot of the old TC members moved over to here.
You couldn't just screw the originals together with just the kit tools and a screwdriver, to get the best out of the gearbox involved deburring all the internal gears first, and Associated suggest the use of a vice and hammer to help assemble the gearbox, and you had to bend the anti roll bar wire to shape then solder the ball joints on the ends of it. You can see the original manual here
http://www.teamassociated.com/pdf/cars_and_trucks/RC10/Team/rc10_manual.pdf I doubt the new kits will be so involved.
If you are only used to Tamiya,Wandy wrote:Quick question though....what is the original like to build compared to the likes of a Tamiya? Don't panic the pic of the AE staff holding the CE is NOT the rerelease. I was holding that car too it's an original vintage car which Romulus brought to RCX to show his awesome machining of his gold anodised stealth gearbox casings.
The rere will be as per original production RC10 and with gold shocks together with the modifications that have alresdy been listed.

Just imagine if AE sell the separately boxed STEALTH transfer like they did back in the day.

So for all the talk in this thread earlier about Chinese companies, if Associated was still US owned we wouldn't have had the rerelease.wydraz wrote:Just met the man himself Roger Curtis. He signed 2 cards for me....says he has no idea why the buggy is so popular and he wouldn't have rereleased it!

Re: Intriguing ad in RC Car Action - RC10 re-release?
Tens of thousands is overly optimistic but hopefully there's more than enough to meet the demand of original owners, or AE does multiple runs if the first batch insta-sells out.kink wrote:I really do not think these are going to be limited. They are going to sell tens of thousands.
I suspect this site may bet a huge boost over the next year or so with new members and
their identical cars.
...
Otherwise it could end up that the greater majority of re-re kits go to the pre-orders from already collectors, and vintage racing won't really expand to a new generation since they couldn't get to actually see a rere RC10 on the store shelves.

i thought about that as well. start a new forum where everyone can build their identical carsMelvinsArmy wrote:So now do we have to add a "retro RC10" section? I mean, there's obviously going to be a huge amount of new RC10 builds that are anything but vintage.

Re: Intriguing ad in RC Car Action - RC10 re-release?
Cliff was telling me how difficult retooling the chassis was.
7 different processes, heat treatment, cooling, curing and I forgot the rest. ... probably drilling, pressing and anodizing in there somewhere!!
As he was telling me all these golden pieces of info I was thinking "Dan you need to remember all his words".....I failed!
Same with Jay Halsey telling me about racing and Roger Curtis just can't get over how humble he was and he just couldn't understand how our why the rc10 is so popular!
