Greetings from the Lonestar State
Greetings from the Lonestar State
First off I'm surprised to find a board where it appears the mean age is over 30...it's a pleasant one let me tell ya.
Sometime back in the early 90's I went down to a local hobby shop with some friends of mine and we all bought some RC-10T's. Alot of fun was had putting those kits together and then beating the crap out of them over the next few years. While I thought it would be fun to go compete at some of the local RC tracks, when I went to go see what it was all about I saw kids whose parents gave them unlimited budgets and it seemed even accidental rubbing on the track was met with serious resentment. So up on the shelf my old 10T with the black and yellow VW Bug body went as my friends moved on to other hobbies or moved to different cities.
Flash up to about a month ago, my girl was over at the house and started asking questions about that old VW RC car up on the top shelf, kind of beat up and looking like it would be alot of fun.
So at this point I'm looking to put this thing back running, I've just forgotten how it all works. I'm researching old schematics and trying to figure out where to get the best parts.
It's got an old futaba steering servo and the same in the reciever. For a speed control it's got a Novak duster megafet sport and an old Green Maxtec motor.
As I remember there weren't any problems with it when it went up on the shelf.
I know I'm going to need batteries, a charger and I'm going to need to find a second R/C so we can beat on them together...
Suggestions on where to start?
I'll see if I can get some pics and post them up tonight...
And thanks,
Rowdymon

Welcome to the board. On the charger, I recoemend you buy the best one you can. This way you only have to buy it once. For batteries, get some name brand matched sets. There are tons of no-namer high capacity batteries out there but you never know the quality on them.

Re: Greetings from the Lonestar State
In the Uk they do banger races.
They even have a category in which you're supposed to have a caravan behind your rc car.
caravan= camping trailer.
That would have been right up your alley
Wellcome to the forum from yet another 30+er
(sports packs from good brands are a nice middle way)

Over thirty? Are you sure you'll be able to take the excitement of an RC10T old man!
Just kidding welcome to the board.

Re: Greetings from the Lonestar State
I guess my question on the charger now would be...do they make them for multiple batteries?
Brands I should avoid or ones I should specifically look for?
Mr Ed...Banger races....some with a caravan...my my that does sound like fun! I will have to see if they have anything like that 'round these parts.
Robotnik...Well ole Doc Severson gave my ticker a thumbs up, but I haven't been playing any nintendo so I bet my reactions are shot...*laugh*
I promised some pics, I snapped a few this mornin' before I headed out...

Of course I didn't hold onto any of the manuals for this beastie...so I have no idea what generation it is.
And thanks to everyone for the welcome...I think I'm gonna have a blast here

Re: Greetings from the Lonestar State
Well your truck looks ready to run, just give it a quick dusting and it definately has plenty of life left in it.
The manual is listed here for all truck manuals;
http://www.teamassociated.com/ae/t4/t4_docs.htm
It comes in three parts;
http://aedownloads.com/downloads/manuals/10t_manuala.pdf
http://aedownloads.com/downloads/manuals/10t_manualb.pdf
http://aedownloads.com/downloads/manuals/10t_manualc.pdf
Ratatatata-ta RC10talk to the rescue!

Re: Greetings from the Lonestar State
That RC10T is going to cost you a premium becuase there are crazy guys like us that collect them.
A better runner for your Girl would be a RTR T4.

They are $239 and you just pop in battery and go.

Awwwwww man...where's the fun in that? RTR? Half the fun on my ole 10T was figuring out how to put it together and then breaking it, buying parts and fixing it again.shodog wrote:That RC10T is going to cost you a premium becuase there are crazy guys like us that collect them.

No, I'll end up getting a kit that I can paint the chassy pink, put on some fun parts that I might dye purple and paint her up a funky body...
So she can break it and then learn how to fix it...*grin*

Welcome to the forum, but don't think that because most of us are over 30 that we are mature. I, for example, am currently wearing Smiley boxers and I love to tuck

He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

That dirty word, 'M' word, didn't pop up until YOU...that's right...YOU sir spoke that evil.
I would be of a mind to wash out your mouth with Jalapeño Seeds if I knew where ya lived!
*laugh*
No, there's just something about dealing with folks who have lived a little longer, done a few more things, and hopefully seen a bit beyond mom and dad's basement...
But 'M' has nothing to do with it...
I'm all about my toys...as seen below

And we all know, can't be 'M' with all them toys!
I'm a Toys R Us kid...Don't wanna grow up!

Re: Greetings from the Lonestar State
White parts are hard to find these days and when you do they go really high. If you want white parts RPM has them for the 10T/T2/GT. Also the 10T bodies are discontinued, the T2's will fit but again they are hard to come by.Rowdymon wrote:Awwwwww man...where's the fun in that? RTR? You can get a T4 kit and have her put that together but you'll have to buy electronics to put into it.
There are a few chargers out there the charge two batteries at a time. Good luck.
