I've been looking for those pics! I found my old Yoke and was wondering what inspired my purchase...now I remember. Great looking car, imho.

Is this a true Masami car or just a (very nice) clone?

Hi All,
This is my first post on this board.
To answer Asso_Man! question, it is definitely not Hirosaka's car (there are a few differences) but probably one of the 50 replicas hand-built by Yokomo and sold in Japan back in late '89 to celebrate Hirosaka's World title. Note the car was sold with the body painted in Hirosaka paint scheme.
The price was 150.000yen. Back then 1$ = ~147yen, so do the math, a thousand bucks. Back in '89 I don't recall any other r/c car worth $1000!

Re: 1989 IFMAR Edition Masami Yokomo Dogfighter
This was the one that I was referring to (some of the older members might remember my post). I saw it on a Japanese auction site and the price went through the roof. I didn't save the pics that time and obviously can't read Japanese, so I didn't know much about it. To me, owning one of these would be the holy grail of all Yokies. I can dream.
Thanks for posting the pics and the info. You just proved I wasn't crazy and I wasn't making it up.
So COOL!

I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Thank you for your post WTS873 .Is there any chance that we can see the rest of the article on the Yokomo or any similar ones providing technical spotlight on Masami's or other winning cars?

Yes, you can. I'll put up some more in the next couple of days. The artice has some really good shots of the handmade rear arms, if somebody wanted to copy them

Re: 1989 IFMAR Edition Masami Yokomo Dogfighter
I actually had my hands on his car. It may have been the 92 Chicago Hobby and Model show. I had my dealer pass (forged) and Masami was at the yokomo dealer booth. If I remember correctly, they were marketing the YR4. He was trying to tell me (his English wasn't that good at the time) about the YR4 and how touring cars were popular in Japan because of the limited space.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the holy grail...HIS yokomo cars!!! I asked him if I could look at them and he graciously agreed. I asked if it was ok to take the bodies off and he said ok.
If we only had digital cameras back then. Hell of a nice and polite guy. My buddy and I were joking that he was probably thinking "what the he**, leave my cars alone"
I got into a lot of trouble that day. I brought my jrxt carpet racer (project X) and asked if I can run it on the carpet track (oval) and the manufacturers said ok. They asked me to leave when people began to notice that my truck was blowing the doors off the pan cars.
What a day!!!
Regards,
highwayracer

What a contrast in comparison to today's jumpwagon driver attitude. The man did stick to his guns and the companies he has been representing for years and did dare to even change almost the whole car and go on to win the worlds with it.What great attitude & what an example.Thank you very much for the scan wts.It really made my day.Any similar article is more than welcome.
P.S. May I also ask if there is coverage of the 1995 and 1997 Worlds somewhere?
