New reproduction and Protype parts
Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
Oh great work!
@vintagecaraddict: I dont think so, they should be proud of all interest given to their older designs!

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
I agree on you about that...Unfortunately losi and AE don't see a market anymore for reproducing parts.. but yet they brought back xx4..I emailed RPM asking if they had any parts for the older losi or AE cars.. the csr rep told me that they did a test run on the AE rc10's black front/rear arms, but failed miserably in sales. So they will no longer be reproducing rpm parts for both the rc10 and jrx2.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
Well I did my part, I have a couple sets of the arms. Too bad it isn't worth their while, but also good to know the molds are still around hehe. Hmmmmm......
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

That is good question, right now the prototype are just a white ABS plastic.slapshot1979 wrote:Would these be dyeable?? petpeeve of mine is white bulkheads
I am on the fence between black ABS like the original or white nylon like the later versions.
So if you have preference, now would be a good time to speak up.
I did a lot of research on this already. No copyright issues on mechanical bits like this. If these had been lexan bodies then copyright is definitely an issue. Of course parts like the JRX bulkhead and Battery holder with the company name would have to be designed without the name. Patents would be the only issue on parts like these. Also for those unaware, the only patent request that was actually ever completed by Team Losi was the Hydra Drive patent. That patent expires in 2018. http://vintagelosi.com/Articles_files/HydraDrive%20Patent.pdfvintagercaddict wrote:So since these losi xx parts are consider reproduction, then losi can't give you any problems right?
I actually talked to RPM as well a while back after talking with Losi proved futile. RPM has destroyed most of the old molds, not enough space to store them all. Very few, if any, of the Team Losi stuff exists.vintagercaddict wrote:I agree on you about that...Unfortunately losi and AE don't see a market anymore for reproducing parts.. but yet they brought back xx4..I emailed RPM asking if they had any parts for the older losi or AE cars.. the csr rep told me that they did a test run on the AE rc10's black front/rear arms, but failed miserably in sales. Now for the latest proto parts to get done. Newly designed JRX2 side bulkhead and JRX series of bell cranks. All designed to be tougher and stronger and 3d printable.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
I don't have a XX anymore, but know of the shortage on the front bulkhead, so that's a welcome item. So are the two latest additions. I think 5-link links would be nice too. My vote goes for white nylon on everything....anyone could always dye it black if wanted. BTW, I like th bellcranks so much I could see them being used on other things too. Some ideas in regards to the bellcrankss - Maybe you could also do a straight arm for modern centered servo placement? How about having the centers for bearings? One could self drill if they wanted I guess...

3D printable. Wow. There is a world of options right there. How long before you can just download and "print" off vintage buggy kits

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
The latest 3d printable part.
Needs a few more tweaks, doesn't snap fit firm like I would like yet. Also somehow got the hole a little too small for the tube to fit in.
I love working in the 3d design software. Finally get to use my skills learned back in college with virtual reality and 3d animation.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
Just about got these parts done. My new parts are in purple.
The bell cranks need to be made just a bit smaller by the ball stud hole. It sticks past the chassis edge by a millimeter or two.
Once I have the revised one printed, it is track time. Hope to take it to the track this weekend. Will run them in a LXT and a JrxPro.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
The latest off the machine is a prototype candidate for injection molding later. New design LXT arms that will work on either side. No more getting stuck with 2 lefts and no rights.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
Well bad news on the XX Bulkhead. The multi-part design just won't work for both XX and XXT. The fact that the shock tower on the XXT mounts from the front throws everything off. While doing the design I kept thinking in my head that they both attached from the back of the bulkhead. Then I tired to attache a prototype to my XXT and immediately realized my mistake. I had been using my buggy all this time as reference.
So I guess it is back to making the thing as one piece. I could try and make it work with multiple parts but then there would have to be unique pieces for the truck and buggy usage and that doesn't make sense to do.
I already have a quote for single piece original, so probably just get that ball rolling for CAD design.
Ugh, can't believe I missed that difference until now. I am really hating the terrible design that is the XX front bulkhead.

Re: New reproduction and Protype parts
I'll test some steering parts & LXT arms for ya
Even the 5 link side mounts, I can take my Robinson fiberglass ones off finally.
