The Missing Link: Box Art Peice
i was at a hobby shop this week, looking for old associated parts as usual, except this shop owner knew his stuff so he had absolutely nothing of value.. Anyway, we got to talking about old rc10's and gold pans, and we got on the subject of box art parts for some odd reason..
we talked about the:
-Bottom Spring retainers
-fiberglass battery straps
-gear cover
-tires
-different versions of shock towers (including how the one on the box was obviously never produced)
-the shock clamps which were never included in any kit.
and then he tells me about the rear fiberglass tranny brace, and im like "huh what?". He said he is 1000% positive that the brace was fiberglass and he saw them in person in new jersey (where i was) at the first roar nationals in '84.
I found the old "Associated Racer's News" that came with the old old original kit.. and yes he was right indeed, there is a picture of one on the 2nd to last page in the booklet.. ill get a scan tommorow
he said on the box, there is a fiberglass tranny brace,

Mikedealer,
There is a member (I CAN"T FREAKIN REMEM HIS NAME!) that has a site that he shows a just about 100% perfect box art resto. He has detailed pics and a description with all that info noted. He makes his living as a hot rod guy, hopefully someone can remember his name and post a link... can't find that either.

Re: The Missing Link: Box Art Peice
i wish that guy would post an update... or at least sell me his rig.
it would be cool if somebody made a little 'kit' that had all those boxart parts.

Re: The Missing Link: Box Art Peice
He was sooo close...
To put forth that effort and then just fade out... sad.
Especially when there have been a few "early spring cup" cars on the 'bay... I mean, if you went to the trouble to trim the nose plate and then re-anodize it, wouldn't you fill the holes in a motorplate and do the same?
If I went as as far as he did I sure wouldn't have put the brakes on.

Re: The Missing Link: Box Art Peice
Hello everyone! It has been along time. I have been super busy with work and some of my Kyosho Projects, But I have been getting allot of emails about the Boxter Project. I guess I really do need to finish it. You have all talked me into it! I will finish the Boxter. I already have the material to make the upper and lower spring retainers. I will try and get started on them this week at work. I have a brand new body and most of the decals I need. I still need to find out the Airtronics receiver model number. If anyone knows what it is please let me know. I'll hopefully post some updates soon.
