This is a very sorry looking 1/8th Nitro Hobby Products Texas Wild Baja from 1979(I believe?)!





I forgot that I'd found these parts until I got a message about them today so I am adding this to the Non-RC10 vintage RC section to spur me on with the restoration.

I have also got an original radio box lid on the way to reproduce and I might, depending on how well that goes repro the lower radio box too.

Oh also new clutch shoes and fuel lines on there way as well, such a bargain for this stuff I might switch to 70's 1/8th nitro.

How can you tell it's an aeroplane fuel tank? Is it ok to use it like this? I am new to nitro you see.

I asked around for the body no big secret, it came from a friend who just happened to have one and loaned me the radio box lid at the same time.

All the parts arrived today in a Losi 8ight box (which I thought was nice and ironic) and he even through in some extra stuff like a starter and electrical bits, etc.

Can anyone tell me what radio gear would be appropriate for this era car? Do the servos need to be really strong to turn this behemoth?

I don't think there were strong servos back then. 40 ish in/oz...

That lot is not for sale...

I do have several of those radios, but don't know that I'm ready to part yet. Search Futaba FP-2TF, "vintage futaba" or "brown box radio"... They can be found for fairly cheap. There were a few other "box" radios also; Kraft, Sanwa, Deans... I'm still looking for an Airtronics CS3 FM box radio (not the CS2P...)

This is a little pricey, but it's had the slot car pistol mod done to it, which is cool.
Also, it's not FM.

If you're patient and resourceful you'll find the whole setup for $10-$15.

This car is completely stripped and under the crap it is in excellent condition. It is all now sitting in cleaner soaking. The dirt is nearly a centimetre deep in some points.

Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

I need to mold the body, radio box and lid asap though. The radio box lid in particular is on loan to be reproduced. I need to get my skates on. Stat.

I have poached his pictures and will try and recreate the boxart for my car. I even have some of the decals but am missing others like the numbers, USA flag, spot light stickers and makers brand. Boy do I want those crazy boxart octigrab tires too!








I have had the car soaking in degreaser for a couple of months and a lot of the dirt has come off but also a lot has not. I really need to get a better product. Similarly I need to mold the body, radio box and lid asap.
