Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
it'll happen. looks like i'll have front tires and jellybeans to put on it in the near future. then all i really need is to tear down some old stick packs, get some shrink wrap, and build a new pack.
i'm not sure about a body though. i want to use a protech, but i don't want a new body. i want an old one, with an old style paint layout and old decals to put on it. that may take awhile to find one i like, and goes along with the blue tub.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
That IS a good looking body and would "mesh" very well with the blue accents on the tub...
just sayin

Remember it's either a runner or a shelfer. Everything else is just parts.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
i'll have to pass on that one. unfortunately, perfomance does suffer with multiple antenna holes.

Looks great scr8p! And, you're quite welcome for the tires. I'm glad to see them on this car.

just remask the windows and spray some blue krylon to fill in where the old krylon fell off,

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
Are you intending to just restore it or restore it and play with it?? The reason why I ask is that I am now thinking of restoring a WOIN to a WOIO and possibly looking for some era specific electronics. If I go that route, am wondering about running them and what to expect regarding performance, longevity issues, and maintenance. Any suggestions or thoughts on that topic?scr8p wrote:it'll happen. looks like i'll have front tires and jellybeans to put on it in the near future. then all i really need is to tear down some old stick packs, get some shrink wrap, and build a new pack.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
i just bought the car because i liked it, and only had plans on getting it cleaned up and put back together. will i ever use it, i doubt it. i don't even know if the electronics work.
as for period electronics, the only thing that will need maintenance is the motor. and unless you are super new to the hobby, i would think you've cleaned a brushed motor before. performance will really depend on the motor and batteries you chose. the last race i ran was at the '08 vintage nats. i was running 4600's and a 27t trinity green machine i've owned since atleast '92-'93. i was just as fast as anyone running 17.5/lipo (non-boosted). i you're gonna install a 1400 scr pack in your car, don't expect that to happen.
make sure you use some kind of lipo cutoff if you plan on using them with older esc's, too.

That is good to hear then. Most likely more for presentation then. Makes sense. And by the way, I love the build of this project.scr8p wrote:i just bought the car because i liked it, and only had plans on getting it cleaned up and put back together. will i ever use it, i doubt it. i don't even know if the electronics work.

I used to race back in the 90's and have been around brushed motors. Oh yes, I do remember that sort of maintenance for cleaning the brushes but am not prepared for truing up the inside. I do remember that was a pain. But, I have had that desire to indulge in the vintage electronics a little.
However, is it just safe to assume that most guys here are not really running brushed stuff (ie, more for presentation)? I like the modern electronics now. Easier to use and maintain.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
The wrap isn't too hard to find, I just took all the wrap off a "newer" pack and used some eBay yellow heat shrink to give it a more classic look. A heat gun needs to be kept in constant motion and far away from the wrap. You will want to practice a bit but once you get the hang of it you will be able to wrap without creases and lines.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
Hey scr8p, I found something today you need for this build....
You could totally do a OIN build on it with some dynotech arms...

<waits for scr8p to freak out>
